Weird problem with video files in windows 10. I dont even know where to start with.

So, i really need some help here. I got some tutorials from my class which i am supposed to follow and learn a few things but the thing is i cannot access some of them. I can see them on my hdd but when i try to open them it says it cannot find the file. I did checked my friends files and they worked fine, i tried copying them and they did copied but then the same problem. I have no idea what's happening. I gotta say its specific to the HDD, if i store else where like on my other HDD's the files are working, however it ruins my folder structure and i cant live with it, like i just cant copy them to a random drive without proper organisation. I run comodo internet security and did a virus scan and malware scan and nothing appeared. I keep my system relatively clean with no junk installed and not allowing others (friends/relatives) to jam their USB drives into my system, so am sure its not a virus/malware problem.

I did a HDD scan using sea tools and HD tune and both came relatively good with no errors/damaged/bad sectors. however i still have this dreaded problem that i have no idea what to do. I cannot delete them cause it just says file cannot be found, i cannot play them cause well same frigging error. The drive is new, around 6 months old.

I did multiple restarts and well nothing happened. As you can see in the images, i have no idea what's wrong. Help would be really appreciated cause am clueless and lost.

I have a feeling that the file is dumped somewhere else, since it's missing from the original location. I'm thinking it could have gotten deleted when you moved it to the drive, or Windows got it stuck in the temp folder while transferring. What I would do is try this; go to Windows Defender Security Centre > Virus and Threat Protection > Manage Controlled Folder Access > Controlled Folder Access to Off, then try moving the file over again. Just turn it on afterwards.

Thnx for the fast reply, that was my first guess as well, but i do not have Windows defender online since comodo has taken over all my security needs.

Check if any of the anti-virus moved the file into quarantine.

just checked and it did not. It looks like windows somehow messed up and i have no idea what to do. This is the first time i have encountered this sorta problem.

The second thing I suspect is the drive is failing, cause Toshiba drives are not really reliable, hence why they are cheaper than other drives. My Toshiba 1TB drive had a bad read head and bad sectors you can't detect so when you transfer a file over it will be unreadable and corrupted. To test if your drive is failing, copy a large file like 5GB or so over, if the drive transfer speed just drops to 0Kb/s and dies there, then it's a faulty drive.

The thing is when i rename the files and then copy they work, but then again i have bunch of previous files that are just sitting there that i cannot delete cause it just keeps saying file not found and it generally looks like a mess cause of all the extra files.

Try running CrystalDiskMark. See if the drive is performing at expected speeds, this would check if the drive is failing.

That took longer than expected. Looks like everything is fine.

It looks normal, I dunno exactly what could be wrong. But check if the file got dump into the temporary folder: C:\Users\"Account Name"\AppData\Local\Temp and C:\Windows\Temp.

Have you tried putting it in a different folder on that same drive and testing it? Have you defragged your HDD recently? This is probably windows displaying it as being there but it's really stored somewhere else. Have you used cmd prompt much? If you can open windows powershell, use cd command to navigate to the folder it's stored in then type the command : ls

this will list all of the files in that folder and should bypass windows being windows (hopefully), but not sure. If your not sure how to do this google it, but basically you type:

cd "F:\Deadly Labs\Tutorial"

into powershell and it should take you to that folder. Good luck

Renaming the folders and then renaming the files to shorter versions did worked and solved the problem, however it's weird cause i have LongPathsEnabled on my windows especially for this kinda things which should not theoretically limit me to 260 chars long.
