Is a 6400t a good vr pairing for a 1050 or 1060

Go to solution Solved by Origami Cactus,

6400t should be capable for vr. Personally i would get the gtx 1060, then you can also play the more graphically intense games, like arizona sunshine etc, but for basic vr the 1050 should be enough.

The cpu is not a problem.

I understand that a 6400t and the 1050 may be a lowball from vr recommended specs, but I have a 6400t right now and a gt 730 from a prebuilt and I would like to only upgrade the graphics card (and power supply) for now if possible. I originally would have just disregarded the idea of vr on a CPU like the 6400t, but upon preforming the steam vr performance test it put my CPU not just as capable but it said I was ready. So what gives? Also, would a 1050 or 1060 sufficiently bottleneck a 6400t? I am not the best when it comes to pc building or upgrading so I appreciate all the help I get.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Use the money you would invest into VR into the pc, there is no point trying to play VR games at a low fps - all it will do is get you motion sick

Really? Ok thanks. That's good to know. I could not find any posts about the 6400t only the 6400 and I was not sure if the lower boost clock and base clock on the 6400t would hold me back.

Yeah, you should really get a 1060. Please get the 6gb card

GTX 1050 is not enough for VR, I have one and have tried to use it.  You will not get adequate performance for anything more complex than Race the Sun.

The lack of GPU power will also drastically degrade image quality.  Aliasing looks horrible in VR and the only solution currently is to just use super sampling, which even the 1060 is a bit under-powered for.

The 1060 is the Oculus recommended spec though and anything higher and your shelling out a arm and a leg so I don't see why a 1060 would not suffice. I tried PSVR playing Superhot and loved it and I don't see why a pc with a 1060 could not replicate the enjoyment I had in a more demanded VR experience, unless of course they are equipping PS4s with 1070s and 1080s xD.

Custom software + scaling hardware in the PSVR box.

Most PC VR games look like trash compared to PSVR TBQH.  Elite requires massive supersampling to get rid of pixelization.

I actually have a PSVR hooked up to a PC and have side by side compared to a Vive, PSVR has a better display out of the gate.

The tracking on the PSVR is in no way on par with Oculus or Vive however.

It depends on the game but I'd say it is still a very capable CPU

low clocks but modern architecture and 4 cores
