What DisplayPort cable do you have? Is the cable physically capable of pushing that much bandwidth through?

Quote
  • Standard DisplayPort cables are certified to handle up to at least 21.6 Gbit/s (the full bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.2)
  • DP8K cables are certified to handle up to at least 32.4 Gbit/s (the full bandwidth of DisplayPort 1.3/1.4)

You need DisplayPort 1.4 capabilities here, because HDR and 144 Hz.

I think the 980ti only has displayport 1.2 which means 120Hz isn't possible at 4k

not true, my brother has a 980ti and it worked perfectly fine with his PC, and im using the same displayport that comes with the PG27UQ

the displayport im using came with the PG27UQ which supports 144hz, 4K, HDR. yes it is capable of pushing it

PC HDR is basically all BS anyways still

You probably just need more bandwidth.

Or set it to 120hz

and i told you it wont allow me to go more then 98hz something is wrong with the PC its not happening on my brothers PC

First issue is 980Ti and HDR: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/7zovep/4k60_hdr_actually_possible_with_a_gtx_980ti/

980 Ti only has DisplayPort 1.2 ports, no way you are going to fit 4K 144Hz through there. Especially with HDR.

And there's the bandwidth problem

Just wait for next gen Nvidia GPUs being announced on the 20th

One of them might have more bandwidth or something.

Or Chroma Sampling was worse on one for some reason.

The older display port spec might not even support HDR.

Or try running the montior at 1080p

like i said before im using the PG27UQ displayport its by no means old.

and even if i tried running 1080p it would not solve anything because HDR menu is still not showing in the display setting

He is saying that your 980ti has DisplayPort 1.2 ports, the monitor needs DisplayPort 1.4 to run at 144hz, 4K, and HDR at the same time. DisplayPort 1.2 DOES NOT support HDR to begin with, so if you want to use HDR you need a newer GPU with DisplayPort 1.4 ports.

Only sort of.

These 4K 144 Hz monitors use YCbCr 4:2:2 chroma subsampling to reach 4K 144 Hz. If you want RGB or YCbCr 4:4:4 color, the best you can do on these is 4K 120 Hz with 8 bpc color depth, or 4K 98 Hz with 10 bpc color depth (HDR).

then why is it when i set my monitor to 1080p i still have a limit of 98hz, my old asus monitor could go up to 144hz but not my new pg27uq and in my old pc (that had 980ti) did have the option for HDR but not the new one

I have no idea about the 98Hz. It may have something to do with the G-Sync HDR module and older displayport versions or your specific GPU. Did your old pc have a different model 980ti than your current one?

Because the 98 Hz refresh rate is imposed by the transmission interface (cable system), If you have GPU scaling turned on then the refresh rate limit will stay the same, because the transmitted resolution is 4K no matter what resolution you chose. You would need to switch to display scaling to enable higher refresh rates at lower resolutions. Previous G-Sync modules don't support display scaling, I'm not sure about the one used in that monitor though.

You would need to enable YCbCr 4:2:2 chroma subsampling. This is done in the NVIDIA control panel.

No. Can you show a screenshot?

EDIT: Since you are using a GTX 980 Ti, which only has DisplayPort 1.2, you will not be able to reach 144 Hz at 4K.
