Should I buy a 144Hz or 75Hz monitor?

Hip

Hey guys,

I'd like to buy a WQHD (1440p) monitor but I'm not sure if I should take one with 144Hz or 75Hz.

My budget is 400 EUR / 450 USD.

My specs are:

i5 4670

DDR3 16GB

soon getting a GTX 1080

The monitors I'm looking for are either:

Fujitsu P27-8 TE Pro

or

Acer XF270HUA

(This one has FreeSync even though I'm buying a Nvidia card; Gsync is too expensive for me with IPS WQHD)

Thank you for all replies and your help!

Go with the Acer. The jump from 60 to 75hz is far too minor to justify the cost of a monitor. 60-144 is.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

Peripherals - Corsair K70 Lux RGB | Corsair Scimitar RGB | Audio-technica ATH M50X + Antlion Modmic 5 |

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

I forgot to say how much they'd cost.

Fujitsu 315 EUR

Acer 349 EUR

Yes I am with Phentos, going from 1080p 60Hz to 1440p 144Hz is a huge and noticeable improvement. You're going to want to get that 1080 soon though, I am in the same position

i7-8700k @ 4.8Ghz | EVGA CLC 280mm | Aorus Z370 Gaming 5 | 16GB G-Skill DDR4-3000 C15 | EVGA RTX 2080 | Corsair RM650x | NZXT S340 Elite | Zowie XL2730

Thanks for the suggestion but I prefer IPS panels.

You wont be able to take full advantage of 144Hz in many games with that CPU.

31.5" AOC Q3279VWF should be around €200, its a 75Hz MVA panel. (no VESA unfortunately though).

Do you think I'd get enough FPS for Battlefield 1 with that CPU at WQHD and 144Hz?

Do you know if it's any good with a MVA panel?

I havent seen it personaly but I was looking at this monitor when I was buying my secondary screens and according to reviews its a really nice panel considering the price of the monitor (after tweaking with the color settings in the OSD).

I picked two of these instead... Viewsonic VX3211-2K-MHD

Now they are officialy only 60Hz but they are IPS (I got them for the same price as the AOC one). The colors are excellent and you get a 10-bit panel with a 4:4:4 Chroma Subsampling.

I havent tried to OC them to 75Hz yet though and I dont have time to try right now so maybe I can tell you tommorow if I wont forget.

EDIT:

Apparently AOC also has an IPS version of the same monitor

Short Answer: Get Acer.

Long Answer: Depend on how serious you wanna play game.

1. If you wanna play competitive game (like CS:GO/Overwatch etc.), then you may need 144Hz

2. If you just wanna play non-competitive game (casual / AAA game) and mainly focus on working, then 75Hz should be enough.

3. I'm neither a big fan of Fujitsu nor Acer... but if you only have these 2 options, then get Acer

4. And they're just 30 Euro difference... so why not? just buy Acer. You get 144Hz

Extra:

5. I'm not a big fan of MVA gaming, becoz high response time, ghosting and deep black is kinda annoying for competitive gaming. (except Samsung's QLED VA)

6. Your CPU should be able to push 100Hz+ just fine. But it won't hit 144Hz on some CPU intensive game.

7. Don't buy GTX1080. just wait for GTX1180 or whatever it called.

7. I thought about waiting for the GTX 1180 to be released to get the 1080 cheaper lol
