Hi all, great forum here. I caught a nice deal on an Aspire A715-72G - 899Euros for an i7 8750H and GTX1050 4GB, 1080p screen, upgradable RAM to 32GB. That fits just about all my requirements for a laptop, but I wonder how the cooling performs with that beast of a processor. I intend to use it for light gaming and programming - will the processor fry if I play GTA V on it or while running a lot of virtual environments?

Thanks in advance.

1050 isn't to hot

The problem is 8750H is a hot chip

This model has OK-mediocre cooling due to outdated design and fairly low amount of heatpipes (by today's means) which requires repaste+undervolt

Location? Preferred weight and battery life?

Yep, that's what I'm worried about. My research tells me this latest i7 chip is very TDP-happy...

I'm in Spain, I'm ok with 2,5kg monstrosities, maybe even stretching to 3kg as long as it's all packed in 15'6" format and has 4-5 hours of web browsing time on battery. I've been looking around and the only options in my price range (up to 1000 euros) seem to have either too gamer-ish looks (like Acer Nitros and Dell G5s and HP omens don't look too presentable on a meeting table) or have 16 GB max RAM limit (the Lenovo Legion y530), so I was really hoping that the laptop in OP could be a workable solution...

It actually supports up to 32GB

Any other options with 8300H/8750H besides the ones you've mentioned?

Really? The documentation at the Lenovo site states otherwise:Untitled.png.ca209a1e6e839c662ad3992e5b16bed4.png

As for other options, all I see is maybe HP pavilion cx0010np, 999Eur 8300H and 1050ti, but I think I read that also has cooling issues.

Hmm in Malaysia site they said up to 32GB. Anyway, I bet the documentation is correct. And yes HP Pavilion Gaming has cooling issue despite a redesigned cooling solution.

If you really mind the look, Dell G7, Lenovo Y530 or Acer Aspire 7 (needs repaste). Remember to undervolt CPU and GPU

Thanks for the input. I'll mull over my choices a bit more, aspire 7 has the cooling problem but a beefy processor and 32GB RAM limit for 899 Eur, I can't find any G7 for sale in Europe at all... y530 has 8300H "only" and 16GB RAM max at a 999Eur price point. I guess the Aspire still seems like the winner, but I'll see.

Aspire 7 has slightly worse build quality as well

for real? the Lenovo specification is wrong?

There is nothing wrong with them lol.

You simply buy the option with 1 dim slot used (16gb) and then add another 16gb stick lol
