I'm getting a new PC this week. Can't decide which CPU to get - 2600/8400/8600k?

Here's the thing, 8400 is cheaper than 2600 here. And the price difference between a 2600 and an 8600k is about $30. I don't have a problem with getting any. (2600 is the only Ryzen 2 CPU available here)

Gaming or productivity you ask? Well, honestly, I'll be gaming mostly for now. But as I won't be getting any upgrades for the next 5 years, I want a future proof system that would let me game and help in productivity in the future.

As for the motherboards, I'll have to pair the 2600 with the cheapest X470 as B450 isn't available yet. 8400 gets paired with a B360/H370. 8600k gets paired with the cheapest Z370.

Are the cheapest variants of Z370 and X470 worth it?

I'll be getting the Hyper 212 Turbo LED to cool the CPU. I'm skipping the GPU for now as I'm not a tight budget. Would probably get a 1060/1160/580 after I save up.

b450 has been available for quite a while, get the 2600 and a b450 mobo, you don't need the 212 evo.

Try using the PSU Tier List!

I'd go with the 2600, but really, there shouldn't be any reason that you can't upgrade if need be over a 5 year period.

Don't get that cooler. Get something like a CryOrig H7 instead.

I'd wait and buy everything at once. Especially if you're in a country that does Black Friday.

I wanted to wait as well. But, I'm in dire need of a PC. The old system is a dual core with a fried motherboard. And no, we don't have Black Friday sales here.

So, extra threads of 2600 should beat higher clock speeds of 8600k in the future?

I don't think anyone here has a crystal ball, so it's hard to say if more cores or a higher clock speed will prevail.

Dude If you don't want extra CPU power and If you want balanced and powerful performance which can handle heavy tasks easily then go with Intel I5 8400, I am using this CPU and trust me its very amazing CPU and believe it or not it competes with the past gaming king Intel 7700K!
