3. For streaming, i want a blue yeti mic and boom arm to start, and a 2nd display i can tilt sideways to read twitch chat) any reccomemdations?

4. Does anyone currently use this graphics card and play WoW on a 2k ultrawide? That could give me performance results?

5. EVGA Warranty voided if i use grizzly thermal paste on my GPU? and if not.. is it worth it? (Wether i OC or not heat kills hardware.. so the cooler the better 20 dollar investment on my 800 to make it last longer seems worth it to me?)

  1. You can wait, and get better performance, but it'll likely be 50% more expensive. We don't have benchmarks, and if the new cards use DDR6 like is expected we might see a pretty nice increase. They're not out, so we don't know. You mentioned waiting for the Ti; they don't come out for another year and a half-ish.
  2. Take your time and pay attention to airflow. Having a ton of fans all over the places is sometimes significantly less effective than having them only at the front/back or bottom/top.
  3. Nothing's future proof, that's such a stupid phrase when it comes to computer parts. It depends entirely on how willing you are to lower settings, what resolution/refresh rate you aim at, what games you want to play, etc etc...
  4. Just don't bother getting another NVME drive. They're a waste of money, really.
  5. I want to say no, but I haven't looked at the requirements for WoW. I'm sure they're available online.
  6. Anything 1080p with a VESA mount. I'd go for something IPS. Just use PCPartPicker and sort by price, with those considerations in mind (except VESA, as it doesn't populate the list correctly when you select it).

Criticisms:

  • Should have gotten a G2 PSU, the G3 isn't as good.
  • Should have gotten a regular SSD, NVME won't really benefit you.
  • I wouldn't have paid for binning on something that will likely get you there anyway, especially since 100mhz here or there doesn't make a difference.
  • Don't do the BestBuy thing. Such a dick move.

Realistically you don't need more than 650w.

Depending on the price I'd go 650w or 750w.

You can also consult the PSU Tier List, there might be a sale on something of similar quality.

@dizmo awesome... now you say we wont see 1180 ti or aftermarket brands until a year or so down the line... will  a 1180 founders edition ($800)  be the better alternative over say... an Asus Strix 1080ti? (Which might drop to $650) when 11 series drop..

Based on past performance increases and assuming GDDR6 will be a thing thats groundbreaking...

im thinking the 1080 ti asus 3x fan strix will have way better cooling than a 1180 founders Silver brick that I will have to pull apart and rattlecan the casing.

You can't really base performance increases on the 900 series to the 10 series. That was indeed quite significant, but it was the exception, not the rule. Generally performance increases are not as large. I'd expect that the 2080 will perform the same, or a little better than the 1080Ti for less money...I don't expect we'll see an $800 2080. More likely it'll be closer to $649.

Cards also likely won't see too much of a price drop; it's not like a car, where you have tons of them sitting on a lot at the end of the year. Production is generally pretty close to demand (granted this year will be a little different), and they just clear them out at slightly lower prices on Black Friday to people that don't know better.

A good friend of mine plays WoW regularly on his 2560x1080 monitor. Game works fine and scales very well to the 21:9 aspect ratio.

In terms of performance it runs pretty solid in all but the busiest of areas, though my friend also has weaker specs (Ryzen 1600 + R9 Fury).

I wish I could give you my own input but I recently parted out my old build to get ready for a new one... and I haven't played WoW since 2009. :P

Oh I forgot you were using a 7970 for a while.

The Fury performs a fair bit better than the 7970, but for a game like WoW you should have no issues so long as you reduce a few settings, like shadows.

I don't have a G-sync monitor, as I'm still saving up for one. However the Radeon card will still work just fine on it. You just won't be able to take advantage of the G-sync functionality until you install an Nvidia card.

Vsync is a personal preference. For competitive gaming I strongly recommend it to be disabled though.

If you're on about the Acer Z35 ultrawide monitor, it is a VA panel that suffers from substantial ghosting and smearing. I want to avoid that crap if at all possible.

If you're on about the Acer Z35 ultrawide monitor, it is a VA panel that suffers from substantial ghosting and smearing. I want to avoid that crap if at all possible.

@Phentos oh wow... i almost set people up for failure lol... didnt realize the costco one was a VA panel... glad i shelled out the money for my Asus... (although i hear alienware one was better i couldnt afford the 200$ more unless i cut into my g card money

Yup your ASUS panel was a good buy. That's one of the units I'm personally looking into as well, though its price is a bit of a downer.

You wasted A LOT of money on this build for your listed use case.  You could have built something that would have been more than enough for half of this budget, and put the rest away to build another one in six years.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.
