Keyboard + Mouse and external hard drive disconnect while backup

Go to solution Solved by ROBOCRIPPLE,

I've fixed it! I disconnected the USB hub and plugged my mouse and keyboard directly into the PC. I tried Windows backup one more time and, guess what? It was a success! I even had the UPS plugged directly into the PC, as well.

I thought the AmazonBasics 7-port USB hub was really good, according to the reviews on Amazon. Maybe I was wrong... Maybe I'm not supposed to connect a USB 2.0 hub into a USB 3.0 port, and my motherboard doesn't have any USB-A 2.0 ports; only the headers.

In any case, I'm happy that I can do backups from my PC, now. :)

I'm looking to do a fresh install of Windows 10 on my PC. Every time I attempt a backup using Windows Backup or gamesavemanager, my external hard drive and USB peripherals get disconnected (the RGB LEDs on the keyboard turn off) and the backup fails. I'm absolutely positively sure that the backup will ALWAYS be successful even with my PC build and peripheral setup. But it looks like I'm wrong. WHY????? :(

Here is my build:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 2600

GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 6GB

Motherboard: ASUS PRIME x470-PRO

Memory: G.SKILL TRIDENTZ RGB 8GB DDR4 x2

1 SATA SSD

1 SATA 7200RPM HDD

1 SATA DVD+RW Drive

Case: DEEPCOOL DUKASE V2

5 Case Fans

PSU: Rosewill 600W 80 PLUS BRONZE-GOLD (don't recall)

UPS: CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD Intelligent LCD UPS System, 1500VA/900W, 12 Outlets, AVR, Mini-Tower

Peripherals:

USB Hub: Amazon Basics 7-port USB 2.0 hub (externally powered)

Keyboard: Logitech G310 Atlas Spectrum RGB Tenkeyless Gaming Keyboard

Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Audio: FiiO E10K Olympus DAC and Headphone Amplifier

Drawing Tablet: HUION 420 Pen Tablet

Webcam: PlayStation Eye

Tenkey: Perixx PERIPAD-202HB, Numeric Keypad for Laptop - USB - Built-in 2xUSB Hub - Tab Key Feature - Full Size 19 Keys - Big Print Letters - Silent X Type Scissor Keys – Black

UPS: CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD Intelligent LCD UPS System, 1500VA/900W, 12 Outlets, AVR, Mini-Tower

External Hard Drive Adapter: Wavlink USB C 3.1 to SATA Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station with Offline Clone for 2.5/3.5in SSD HDD SATA (SATA I/II/III) 6Gbps, Support 2 x 8TB and UASP-Black (externally powered)

Everything except the Wavlink are connected to the USB hub. I'm using a 2.5in hard drive plugged into the Wavlink as the backup drive.

What is going on here? What did I do wrong with my setup that prevents successful backups?
