I am building a PC for my brother for working with FL studio/Abelton Live and video editing. The budget is around 550$-650$ and needs a high core count CPU and lots of ram for FL/Abelton and enough graphics for editing YouTube videos. The video editing will not be very intense and will just be going between two 1080P clips with audio over it. The music will be very intense so that is the priority. He already has a external 1tb drive so storage is not an issue. looks don't matter and a mid-ATX size case with room for a graphics card upgrade would be nice.

I need to bring the price down but this is what I have put together.

I do music production. The two things you want are lots of ram and lots of cpu power. A large ssd is good but not a necessity. This is a good start but if the 1700x can fit into the budget it’s worth it. You’re on the right track though, glad to see some more production tech enthusiasts!

Why a 2017 CX450? The 2015 CX450M is semi-modular and costs a fraction more.

The 1050 Ti doesn't need 2 PCIe connectors, and the CX has better internals and a rifle bearing fan (instead of a sleeve bearing)

:)

could save a lot of money if core count is more important and you could actually use them all. a previous gen machine would cost less and have a faster cpu. basically you're throwing a lot of money away on ddr4 thus the only cpu choice is only a ryzen 5

Older as in a PSU that I currently have that is a 2015 version? I was never told this when I had my build plan reviewed...

The CX450M isn't old. I believe he was talking about the SeaSonic M12II from 2008.

@Quadrum as you seem experienced in this do you see any ways to improve on this to make it cheaper? Is the 16GB ram even useful? should I just get 8?

I use 8GB of RAM. It's enough for most games, except like Cities: Skylines. So I put in a RX 580.

@LienusLateTips Thank you for the help but wont the graphics card be a bit overkill If all that this is used for is light video editing? I feel like the 16 GB of ram will be more useful for FLstudio/Abelton Live witch is the main use of this computer. It that correct?

Forgot to read the programs :P

Yes though.

The case I chose has better airflow, may want to consider that.

I wish I could tell you 8gigs is fine, but I’d say if your brother is any bit serious about this then he needs 16 gigs at least. Everything else is great as far as I can tell. I see some people talking about the psu but honestly as long as it will run the computer it’s fine. Hope all goes well!
