Upgrade from a 1050ti to...

K i a r a

Hey,

So I'm soon to be needing a Graphics card upgrade, and not sure what would be the best option.

Currently I have this Zotac 1050ti Mini It has done me well, But at some point throughout this year, or maybe even next year, Ill buy a new GPU, But not sure what to go with..

I don't really play any crazy heavy games, And I only have a 60hz monitor so I rather play with V-Sync on, so Capped 60fps, But would like it not to drop below 60fps (Like what the 1050ti is doing)

I'm guessing my main GPU ive been looking at is the 1060 6Gb or the RX 580 8Gb Is this the best option? Thanks!

Wait for the next gen of NVidia cards, you could maybe get the 1150 Ti or 1150 for cheaper than a 1060 but with similar performance.

What is your budget? You could get around $100 for the 1050Ti. Adding to your budget.

Well there like CPUs usually, there not too much more the lower end ones than there predecessors. It could also drive down the price of the current gen ones which could make you rethink your choices.

^^^ Yep, if you don't need the latest and greatest performance, always buy used last gen for that optimal bang to buck. I have a 980 Ti I got before the mining boom for $300 and that runs everything I need and more, kinda overkill for my 1080p monitor.

I purchased a GTX 1060 and i dont see any games running into frame issues unless im running them at 1080p on ultra settings and watching a HD video on my second monitor and i quite like the look of them when the new cards are released you should see a sale on most of the old cards. I have tried to stay away from the mini GPU's (single fan) as my first card i got was one of them and it fried its self so as a safety precaution i got this one which is dual fan (which dont spin until it gets to 45 degrees and i hardly ever see them spin unless im running a large game)

Dewit, it's an amazing card and I haven't yet met a game I can't run on ultra easily... TiMe tO InstAlL cRySiS! (sadly the OG crysis just crashes before even launching so I guess I should install Crysis 3).

Hmm, I really hate buying used, Have never been a fan of it.. Due to going out and meeting the person.. idk

or even buying it online, Dont know what the person has done with it, So id rather go with New, even if I have to spend more.

Do you think the prices of last gen GPUs well go down in price when the new ones come out?

And yea, Like I said I dont care about geting 200 FPS ON MAX SETTINGS!! haha, Id rather just play on med/High settings capped at 60fps, But not lose fps and drop to 50s, like mt current gpu is doing.

Yee, a 970 or 980 would handle that easily, but since you don't wanna buy used I guess that's not an option. The 1100 series should knock the price of the 1000 series down a bit for sure though, hardware usually drops in price after the latest gen comes out.

1070s are dank too, or you could drop a bit and get a 980 (should still be fine for 1080p, or even a 970). I got my 980 Ti off craigslist, the guy was actually super nice and the GPU was in pristine condition (literally looked new and he had the original box and everything). It's ran well for the year I've had it and it's pretty darn cool once I got my case airflow sorted out, since it's the fancy MSI Frozr cooler. Really quiet as well, my CPU/case fans are the main source of noise in my rig.

The 970 is almost 1060 level, the 980 is a bit better, and the 980 Ti can beat a 1070 by a few percent.

If you wanna save a buck. See if you can find a R9 290x or R9 390x on the used market.

They are older cards, but perform lile a 1060 6GB. Should be able to get one for around 150-170$

A used R9 290 / 390 costs like 200-250$ here.. Almost the same price as a new 1060

A used R9 290 / 390 costs like 200-250$ here.. Almost the same price as a new 1060

Shame. I guess thats the nature of the used market. See if you can lowball one of them. If not pick a 1060 6GB or RX 580 8GB. Whichever is cheaper. Unless you have or are planning to get a freesync monitor. In which case the RX is better

Yea!
I was leaning towards the RX 580... It seems to be better in most every game, And oddly is cheaper then the 10606Gb... But ill still wait awhile to buy one, So I can save up some money.

Do you have any experience with AMD gpus? I have a Ryzen CPU too.. But I have heard some people saying they are not as much... uh valued? compared to nvidia chips? Like they tend to run into more compatibility issues? idk..

in terms of stability it is said that AMD drivers are more stable, though either card rarely have issues with that. what thing you have heard mostly comes from Nvidias bigger mindshare and marketshare. though the 580 is a very solid card atm
