at this point, it's not about cheapest cpu, it's about platform and future upgradeability. How long is z370 viable for? AM4 is going to be around for a long time. I would go for a Ryzen 5 2600x and a B450 motherboard. you could go to an i7-4790k if you want to use your current ram, but it would have to be good pricing on used hardware. a 1080ti for 1080p gaming is a waste. If you are a near a Micro Center, that would be your best bet for bundle pricing.

If you're running games at 1080P, even with no CPU bottleneck, you will probably not hit 100% GPU usage.

Also, if you're hitting your monitor's max refresh rate in all your games, I would suggest your next upgrade to be a monitor rather than a new CPU. There's no point of getting FPS higher than what your monitor can display... Unless you're getting stuttering or something else making the game unplayable.

Try 16k. jk:P

Just limit the FPS to 60, no need make the GPU work 100% all the time.

@DivineKnights
dont do this..... just get a better CPU and you're golden for many many many years to come

1080TI and 1080p will last you an insanely long time maxing out your graphics settings.

he will probably lose money if he returns his 1080Ti and not to mention even if he buys a GTX 1060 or something.. that won't fix his FPS drop

i agree it's stupid to spend so much money on something that is completely incompatible, but he has to upgrade his CPU anyway... an FX CPU is just worthless in 2018, even a Ryzen 3 1200 will beat that CPU

i mean he's already there with a GTX 1080Ti, why not just go balls to the wall and maybe get a 1080p 144hz monitor in the future, he doesn't have to buy everything right now.

Upgrade your cpu, that thing is TRASH. Core i5 8400 or Ryzen 3 2200G

Grab an 8600k or 8700k. a 7700k if you're on a super low budget & ditch that platform in 18 more months

The only way to utilize gpu with that cpu would be getting high res monitor not a high refresh one. 4k60hz would put big load on gpu and cpu should manage 60fps with occasional dips.

It's actually not the end of the world if you play 1080p all graphical settings maxed out and is targeting 60fps, I'd wait at this point for the 9th gen sure... it's coming shortly and you'll have better funds to pair this 1080 Ti with a proper CPU.

I Have a 8150 with a 4.7 oc and an rx580. It depends on the tittle but single cpu tittles you give like 60 fps and thats it gpu is sleeping and your FX has one of the cores at 100% normally its the 8 one. Games like ark, doom, etc I can max out the rx580 no problem. So it depends on the tittle but get a 1070 and upgrade that CPU to a R5 2600 and happy days.

It's kinda known that FX bottlenecks any GPU over like a 380.  You can get a Xeon E3 1226 V3 for like 100 bucks or close to it off ebay and an 1150 H97 mobo for under 200 or around 200.

Whats a 380?

This. i5 8600k, or even i7 8700k

For 1080p @ 75 Hz, the 1080 ti was a complete Fail buy, especially with this potato CPU. Since any more than 75 fps are useless.

There would've been probably zero difference to a 1080, or maybe even 1070 ti.

But see it a different way: What GPU you have in your System does NOT affect how much fps your CPU can deliver.

Why is it suddenly not enough? Who cares about Bottleneck. No Gaming PC will ever have no Bottlenecks. There is always one.

If the fps, you have, are enough, then you don't have a Problem. Except you wasted Money on your GPU.

But you can just use DSR at x4.00 Factor, and have your Games rendered in 4k for better Visuals. GPU is bored, then give it more to do.

do you think it's not future proof for upcoming heavy games?
