Cheapest Multi-Monitor adapter?

Hello people! I have a Surfacebook 1 which has a Mini DP port. I want to have a dual monitor setup but I really cannot afford a $200 surface dock. I already have a mini DP to VGA which I have been using with my current monitor. I was wondering if I can just buy one of these  https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Output-Multiple-Monitors-Windows/dp/B00D4OUT7I/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1533149974&sr=1-6&keywords=usb+3+to+hdmi USB 3.0 to HDMI and plug that in as well. Will it work? Will I be able to extend all three screens(two monitors and one laptop)?

What resolutions are the displays?

You could use a USB to HDMI graphics adapter but I definitely wouldn't go with that one, Plugable makes some good ones:

I've experienced stutters and poor performance even with the nicest of USB to HDMI graphics adapters, depending on the resolutions you may be able to run both displays from the same mini DP.
