How can I convert mini-displayport to dvi?

Hello,

I currently need to hook up my laptop to two external monitors, each with only a dvi input, simultaneously. My laptop has one hdmi, and one mini displayport, with no other video outputs. I have one hdmi to dvi cable, which works fine with the hdmi port to either of the dvi monitors. I need to get another cable to connect to the other monitor, but I am unsure of which cable to get. All of the cables I am seeing on a local computer store's website that can go from mini displayport directly to dvi say that they work with Apple computers only (my computer is an MSI gaming laptop running Linux). Is this simply because Apple uses mini displayports, and I can use these adapters as well, or is there some Apple-specific software and/or hardware that makes these work? If the latter, then can I connect a mini displayport to hdmi to a hdmi to dvi adapter and get a working video feed? If not, what can I do? Both monitors are 1080p 60hz, so there are no issues with maximum resolution or refresh rate on any of these connection standards.

Thank you

Mini DP is a standard, just like DVI. Any adapter from mDP to DVI should work. It's just that Apple is the biggest user of mDP.
