ASUS has published a list of its upcoming motherboards powered by Intel’s yet-not-announced Z390 chipset. As expected, the company will offer several families of platforms featuring over a dozen of models aimed at different market segments and supporting different features.

ASUS intends to offer Intel Z390-based motherboards across five families of its products. The top-of-the-range Z390 offerings aimed at enthusiasts and overclockers will be marketed as the ROG Maximus XI series. For gamers and enthusiasts ASUS will offer four ROG Strix Z390 mainboards in different form-factors. For gamers with lower budgets the company will release eight Z390 motherboards under the TUF and Prime brands. In addition, there will be a single Z390 Dragon mainboard that will be available only in China.

Oooh these are DEFINITELY worth the upgrade from Z370 to Z390.

Right?

My thing is, if both boards support the 9th gen CPU's, which Gigabyte already released their "future compatibility" BIOS update like MSI did, then no one is going to need these unless they offer some sort of benefit.

What is Intel doing over there?

It's their Prime Level. Here is Z370 Dragon. The board looks similar to their Z370P with a different heatsink design.

I wonder what this means for compatibility with the older Z370. Hopefully they don't decide to change anything that we know already; the 8 core being compatible with Z370.

Though, I also can't see them making an entire new chipset for a single CPU.

It'll be interesting to see how this all plays out. Nice to see that we'll have tons of board selection.

Why do people always assume new stuff comes out to entice people who just built a system?

Especially since the features since the P55 were dramatically increased, except for higher speed connections of course, there is nothing the same, isn't it?

It's to replace z370 line up for NEW builders that don't have worry about compatibility (bios update). The same way AMD released x470 to replace x370 with exactly 1 change, slightly better memory suppport.

The same as Q370. It's referring to the fact "Bluetooth" is owned by someone else and that it is version 5.0 compatible. That's why they have it after PCI Express as well.

The 5 means it supports Bluetooth 5.0. The chipset has built in support for Intel wifi and BT, but it seems it's up to the board makers, to decide if they want to use this feature or not.

Good old Asus, 15 $300+ mobo's on offer when an $80 board would suffice for 99% of gamers.

Mentioned about the q370 also with wifi and bt. Asus q370 has a m.2 dedicated for that.

https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/PRIME-Q370M-C/

Z390 is the second generation of high-end chipset for Intel’s 300-series platform for Coffee Lake desktop processors. It builds on Z370 in two obvious areas: chipset support for up to six USB 3.1 (10 Gbps) ports, and introduces a built in wireless networking MAC for dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi use via Intel’s new integrated connectivity feature. This uses Intel’s 802.11ac Wave 2 configuration, suitable for up to 160 MHz wireless bands. These additions mirror what we saw when Intel launched the low-range and mid-range chipsets such as H370, B360, and H310, in early April.

I'm mildly annoyed at the fact that there's 15 ATX boards listed.  For fuck's sake Asus just release like 3 boards, it's a major turnoff to the brand because I don't want to spend 2 hours trying to figure out what the fuck the difference is between Strix-E and Strix-F  and Strix-G and Code Hero whatever the fuck.

They don't even publish what the differences are, you'll have 4 boards with pretty much the exact same spec list and have to ask them directly to find out that the difference is one heatsink or VRM design.
