Is 8GB of ram enough.. (Send help)

Hey, im about to order PC parts for my new PC, and I am in a tossup between 2 builds that I can afford with my budget.

1) 8700K, 1080 TI, 8GB Ram clocked at 2400mhz.

2) 8700K, 1080, 16GB of ram clocked at 3000mhz.

Reason why i cant afford 16gigs of ram with 1080 ti is because I also need to purchase 144hz monitor, and that limits my budget when it comes to it.

Both GPUs are asus strix, 8gb of ram is kingstons fury, 16gb one is tridentz rgb from g.skill.

I would buy another ram slot down the line of 3-4 months.

Thanks for the help :)

Oh and a followup question: Will 8GB of ram be enough to play all current games at max settings, and will it be enough to play games like WoW and overwatch and stream at 720P in the same time?

I personally would wait a bit on ordering the PC parts. I would go with 16GB ram, but new GPUs are scheduled to launch in august, so you should wait before building a new PC.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

What are you using the PC for?
I'd consider the 8600k. Or, if you live in an area with decent market, a used 8700k to save some money.

I've never understood people who are spending this kind of money on a PC and can't afford the extra $80 for more RAM.

Also, what @bellabichon said. New CPUs are also coming out.

A lot of people told me I should get GPU now because I dont really plan to to get the new series, and  they are all saying that prices of current generation will probably not drop in price. I am pretty sure I wont need a better gpu than 1080ti for a loong time before I upgrade it looking at the current games. Its also a good note that I will not be switching to 2k or 4k resolution ever. I understand that 1080 ti is a complete overkill for 1080p gaming, but I am looking to future proof my PC for next 3-4 years at least.

To put it short, I am trying to get both of the best worlds so I just want to know if 8gb of ram will be enough to support my needs until new year :P

I am scared to go for 8600K because of bottlenecking, and 8700K is just an overall amazing processor from what ive heard in the gaming community. Considering CPU is the last part i will ever replace, or probably never, I want to make sure i get the best one there is in my budget

I don't think that's true. When new products launch, there are almost always some sort of sale or rebate on the older models. The 1080ti is still going to be a great GPU for a long time now, but a sale on a 1080ti could give you the extra cash for 16gb of RAM, which you definitely need to keep that 8700K fed with data, especially if you're using Chrome as your main browser.

The 8600K will not noticeably bottleneck a 1080ti, especially if you overclock it.

It won't bottleneck a 1080Ti. So, I'm not sure what you're worried about?

The 8600k is as good as the 8700k in games.

Really, though, I'd look for a used 8700k.

I agree with @dizmo. Used CPUs almost always have the same performance as new, but because they've been opened, you can usually get them for about $100-$200 cheaper.

Performance is identical, plus you retain the warranty, so there's no real downside. Well, I guess you'd lose a year of warranty, but with CPUs they generally work at the beginning or not, and after that they're fine.

Please send me sushi.

Hmmm, I will defo take a look at used 8700k's on my market. I guess CPUs are something you cant really go wrong with ^^ I just really want a 144hz monitor because it would be a proper shame to have 1080 ti and play it on limited 60hz IPS monitor for a while, and that fucks wiht my budget hard
