My 290x began displaying square artifacts while gaming and would promptly stop displaying an image once the card started to get to operating temperature. The system would still be running but no image and once restarted it was fine. I read that it might have been a memory issue on the card which is odd because the card is only factory overclocked. So I loaded up rivatuner with all the GPU on screen display information checked, and loaded GTA V again, so I could look at keep an eye on the vram temps etc.

Except this time it did the same thing only for no image on reboot (all the temps were sub 80c btw). I removed all drivers using a different GPU, tried the 290x in a different system, but the card simply won't display an image anymore.

It's too old for warranty and I don't really want to ruin my oven trying to bake this thing, so does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix my card?

Any suggestions would be great.

P.S. this is my first post so I'm hoping for good things xD

Your VRAM might be dead, not necessarily a dead card as a whole.

I know you wanted good news, but my recommendation would be to start looking for a new GPU.

Thank you for your quick response. Tbh I suspected that it's the VRAM that's gone, which is disappointing since I've only had the card for about 6 months :/

Do you have a budget for a new card, or do you need some time to build one up?

I'll probably use it as an excuse to upgrade, and since I have a freesync monitor I'm best off staying with AMD. Unfortunately there isn't much between my old 290x lightning and the expensive vega cards on AMDs side, so it's either nvidia or a 290x/390x/fury. I tend to get parts second hand and I think it's caught me out this time.
