Acer Nitro 5 for video editing?

Hi,

I'm on a tight budget and I'm considering buying the Acer Nitro 5 for my daily activities: web and mobile development, video editing with Premiere and After Effects, and light gaming.

I will connect it to an external display and external peripherals, and I also have a PS4 for more advanced gaming. So I'm looking to replace my aging desktop with something I can travel with. I also have a Huawei Matebook for my daily commute.

I see that it comes with one 8GB RAM stick, so I'd buy an extra 8GB for more comfort.

At $650, do you think this would be a good choice?

I've seen that it outperforms last year's i7 in some benchmarks

That's probably your best choice for your budget. That cpu is an i5 but it's 8th gen and it'll match a 7700hq in most tasks.

Then all good. For budget it i your best choice, but if you are doing heavier work it it can be a bit weak.

It is a quad core hyperthreaded chip, about as good as you will get for that budget and not bad. for editing

After watching and reading many reviews, I can see that the thermal design isn't optimal since both fans are on the same side of the laptop. Deal breaker? Is there any way around it?

Liquid metal should work if you're comfortable opening up the laptop and follow the correct safety precautions when using and applying liquid metal.

Honestly, as long as the laptop doesn't thermal throttle under load, I would get it.

Pretty good deal, Its on sale for $70.00 off, If you wait closer tell school, It might go on even bigger of a sale, But that you are on a budget, An alright deal.

Below average screen, But to be expected at this price point, But as long as your needing a crazy color accurate screen, with your Video editing, This is not a good option.

But at 600$ you wont get much better then this, The 1050 is also nice in the Laptop.

Plus only a 4 hour battery life.

Also this is the SSD option and it comes with a 1050ti.. For an 80$ difference.. I think its worth it..
