Any RAF Workers? Aka can I join if I’m techincally unfit ?

WolfLoverPro

so I am not exactly looking to get hired right now but I’ve always been pretty interested in jobs at anything like fixing planes or maintaining guns or anything.

This is going to sound a bit silly but might as well ask anyway becuase no one else probably has needed to.lol

So pretty much every role is you have to pass a fitness test and I didn’t really get why for jobs like where you won’t exactly be running or walking anywhere but fair enough if it says it

But I’m technically unfitish

I mean for one I can’t do push ups and I don’t hate fitness but it’s like really not my thing I’m a small way depending what it is

Running I ain’t great possibly if I absolutely pushed myself to run like 2 miles but yeah as I said I’m not really overweight but I am like that guy who can get out of breath fast but if pushing myself I could do a bit more

I’m just asking I guess why do you need to do a fitness test to get a job let’s say in somthing like remote drone or radio control anything that has to do with mainly being inside pretty much or was interested in fixing aircrafts but I guess the only thing I can think of is that you have to run to the plane .

Is there any jobs at all where I could get hired to do without passing the fitness test I don’t want to sound bad but like I really probably wouldn’t pass it but I can learn fast and would pretty much be good at fixing planes and stuff

Yeh lol

If you're going into any armed forces, you will need to pass a fitness test.

Technician jobs at airports might let you do this, I don't know what the requirements surrounding those positions are. You'd also likely have to have some kind of real qualification.

Armed forces. Being fit is basically a requirement, no matter what.

Excuses aren't gonna work. Even over here in the States, if you can't meet the physical requirements, there aren't gonna be any excuses that will work.

Because if you're going to be part of a repair crew, the crew chief needs to know that you can be up and in a hanger or on the parking pads to rearm/refuel/repair a fighter that has just landed as fast as possible. They are not going to wait around for you to catch your breath. The military is not a casual job, they don't take slouches

I’m not even on about that job I’m on about even a job that is like operating a drone or simply like idk a car mechanic or uh yeah

but you even say that

the broken plane would be in a hanger so it’s not like you need to run constantly on From one hangar to other so like....... to me anyway lol

and yeah I’m nit on about like that one where u gotta go fix as soon as it lands there a specific jobs that are in the hangar  and  stuff only so yeah

to me ?

Because during wars, enemies will bombed the air field or sent troops to capture it. Then your commanding officer will either say "you have 2 minutes to run across a distance of a football field, man the anti aircraft guns, shoot down the enemy bombers/missiles, or be bomb to shit" or "here is an automatic rifle. I want you to charge out there and shoot at those bastards. If they get too close, engage in melee with your fist, legs, and teeth"

How are you gonna do these and survive if you aren't fit? Oh, if you get scared and run away, you will be court martial. The penalty for cowardice and desertion is usually death by firing squad. It isnt just the Soviet Russians who like to shoot at their own retreating soldiers.

maybe not, but if that's the role you're in you may not get a choice when push comes to shove.

either way, repairing any kind of vehicle is manual labor, you're going to be moving around a lot, carrying heavy things and depending on the complexity, working on it for hours on end. It's not a job where you get to dictate your own breaks. If this is the mentality you have, then I'm sorry, but you don't belong in the military.

Find a job at a local airport as a maintenance worker, they are going to likely care less.

But like

a mechanic might not be trained to shoot a gun but anyway it should matter if u can’t run far as long as ur good at shooting it should be fine or if u can handle a weapon

like it’s not just going to be 1 solider going for all enemies so the fast runners will go and get there fast but then the slower still go at same time but get there later but still might have better skills

Doesn't matter. If you are in the military and enemy is right outside, you WILL be order to fight. That includes airforce pilot, army engineers, army medics, and ect. If you don't want to, don't join the miliatry. Become civilian mechanics, not the millitary mechanics.

Edit: quoted the wrong person.

If your too lazy to train for running the RAF ant for you. Also if your not in shape boot camp will get you in shape for you. If your fail that they send you away to get more PT if you fail that they'll probably just discharge you.

Don't you have to pass a fitness test to join in the first place, prior to boot camp?

You have to pass a physical. Never heard of having to pass a fitness test to get into boot camp. When my brother enlisted he only had to go to meets before hand but there wasn't a test they just more or less did PT with other enlistees. (Or is it spelled enlisties? Meh) There is a physical fitness test at the end of boot camp though. Not sure if there's a test before boot camp for the RAF. I'm from the states so it might be different for different countries.

I know in the States you have to pass a physical exam to get in the Armed Forces, I thought that and "fitness test" would kinda be the same thing.

Nah they just give you a exam to make sure you don't have any medical issues that would prevent you from serving. Aka being flat footed, Crohn's disease, arthritis, as well as any psych reasons for you not to serve as well.

You simply can't join if you are unfit to. Also 2 miles is like nothing.

You clearly have no idea what it takes to be in the military, and frankly I don't think you'd pass the tests.

With a very quick search the answers to your questions are easily accessible. For example, here's the weapons tech requirements:

https://www.raf.mod.uk/recruitment/roles/roles-finder/technical-and-engineering/weapon-technician

If you're not willing to get into shape to join, you're not seen as motivated enough to carry on with the tasks required of you.

You should stick to looking at civil jobs.

My cousin is a naval doctor, and she had to go through boot camp.  It's not simply about doing the job, but making sure you're fit enough to defend or haul ass in case of an attack depending on your position.

No offense but I believe women have no place in the military.

Yeah I wouldn’t pass the fitness tests at all

but I still would of though they would technically hire anyone interested in being in the army or whatever becuase like if you wanna risk ur life being shot he’ll better for them cuz more people willing to be shot In the battleground so I dint see why they don’t hire like any people than can’t lol run but ya know maybe I just don’t get it

of course they don’t want there team to die but I’m just saying like at least if the person wants to put their life on the line why shouldn’t they have a chance just cuz they can’t like idk do the fitness shit but yeh that’s me

maybe I’m getting the wrong idea cuz what I was thinking of the raf plane engineer or whatever I said that it would be just fixing military vehicles not that they want you to l8ke fight so idk

guess im go look for plane fixing in the Gatwick airport lol

The only way you can work on any military equipment without joining the military is to be a civilian contractor. And if you want to work out on deployed fields or whatnot, you're going to need years of experience before you're even remotely considered for the job.

That's assuming of course the military has some need for a civilian contractor.

EDIT: Also the military, at least the US military but I'm sure it's similar to most other militaries, only distribute jobs based on a need and if you make the cut. You may want to be a technician for aircraft, but if they don't actually have a need for it, they won't take you in for that role anyway no matter how much you want it.
