This episode was great advertisement for the Nintendo Switch.  There is someone playing one in literally every shot.

lol the amount of people here complaining about the Nintendo Switch... How do you guys survive watching a movie? Movies nowadays are literally just glorified advertisements. Gotta frame that shot to really bring home the guy is driving a Chevrolet. Oh better shoe horn those Beats by Dre in there. Don't ask me why that robot is disguised as a Mountain Dew vending machine

Because a movie doesn't have multiple dedicated sponsor spots in the video. So I get an ad before the video from youtube, an ad spot in the middle of the video, then an ad spot at the end with almost all of Linus' shots having yet another ad in the video in the form of that chick looking like a moron walking around playing a switch with a Dbrand skin.

That lady was holding a switch? I thought it was just a really crappy tablet. Product placement girl is very distracting and annoying. Why did only Linus get a product placement stalker? Why didn't Luke get a lady following him around all day?

It didn't bother me enough to dislike the video because that's a ridiculous reason to do so, but I did find it distracting. I wouldn't have minded if she interacted with Linus in some way, but she was just there, Switch lurking.

That girl was SO annoying. Like it made it difficult to pay attention to the video.

3 ad spots, the messing around at the beginning AND the girl, i know scrapyard wars is a big deal for LMG but holy crap keep it entertaining, this was just annoying and it completely ruined the episode.

 

Also the fact that it's never disclaimed properly wtf she is doing there (not mentioned in the video, comment, video description or whatever) makes me wonder if this is even legal. Like where I live if there is product placement, it has to be disclosed by a little icon at the beginning of the episodes. Of course it's impossible to comply with all the laws everywhere and you guys aren't in the EU but still. If it's product placement, disclose it in SOME way. Not this mess.

 

Also, for me it had probably the opposite effect, not going to buy a dbrand skin ever because of this.

This has been a really unique season to shake things up a bit from the previous ideas, it's such a simple premise change-up but has such a huge impact that it's kind of genius. Kudos to whoever thought of it. It looks like Linus is rather in a dark horse position because of that 1070 vs Luke's 1060, but with the shady seller I dunno, a lot of people selling used cards right now on classifieds (or a months ago) are still trying to get the inflated mining prices, so the only places you can really get a fair deal are the more liquid markets like ebay. I'm surprised no one has checked out gaming retail stores to see if anyone knows someone with an older PC they're looking to part with, and I'm really surprised Luke's tactic of going retail and asking for whats-in-the-back panned out.

Also my blind impression/theory with Switch Girl, having not read anything else on the forum about it previously, was this was her internal LTT employee embargo being lifted to be included in videos, and they'd introduce her at the end or something. Guess not? I think the shots where she's standing in the background in static placement are pretty creative in the sense of that meme from 12 years ago where a velociraptor was always casually photoshoped in the background. The non static shots, especially those where the camera zooms out and pans to fit her into frame are a bit too overt and distracting from a filmography perspective.

Just checking into this since I got a PM that was concerned we were trying to conceal the Dbrand product placement and that was worried about us running afoul of sponsorship disclosure laws.Here's what I had to say about Switch Girl in response:

We thought it would be very obvious that she was sent by Dbrand. There was no intent to be shady about it, and it surprises me that anyone would get that vibe from it. It's pretty "in your face".

The Dbrand sponsorship of Scrapyard Wars 7 is about as blatant as any sponsorship could be. There are both text and verbal call-outs. We aren't at risk of running foul of any product placement laws, lol.

 

Clearly we were wrong in the sense that people didn't think it was funny.
