What headphones are you using and what are you using as your music source?

Is this a joke? You can send them to me if you don't like them haha.

Ensure you are listening to decent quality music files id say at the least something like Spotify premium (320kb's) or higher.

In your sound settings/playback devices on your desktop make sure you have enabled the correct sample rate under the properties for the Modi 2  &  check all connections, headphones, rca's , power etc just to rule that out.

Also like @Max_Settings said what headphones are you using?

Do you have the Modi 2 set correctly in Windows with the correct sample rate?

I had it set to 24/96 when I was testing it against a cheap DAC/AMP SMSL M2

Hmmm well if everything is set correctly you must be mistaken or not know how to analyze a DAC/Amp setup. I have used both the M2 and the Stack and the Stack is much better. It is something that comes with practice.

Quote

Gen 2/Gen 5 Drivers for Modi 2, Modi 2 Uber, Bifrost, and Gungnir

For Windows 10: Schiit USB Gen2 Drivers (W10) 1.01 (6.5MB)
For Windows 8, 7: Schiit USB Gen2 Drivers 1.16 (29.5MB)

Alternate drivers (if you have trouble with the above): Schiit USB Gen2 Drivers 1.03 (For 7 and 8)

Once you’ve downloaded the drivers:

Step 1: Go to your Downloads folder (or Desktop, or wherever you had Windows put the drivers.)

Step 2:

For Windows 10: Double-Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_W10_1_01.zip file to expand it.
For Windows 8, 7: Double-Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_1_16.zip file to expand it.

Step 3:

For Windows 10: Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_W10_1_01 folder to open it.
For Windows 8, 7: Click on the Schiit_USB_Gen2_1_16 folder to open it.

Step 4: Connect the DAC with a standard USB A-B cable, 2M or less in length, with true USB 2.0 rating.

Step 5: Double-click on setup.exe. This begins the driver installation.

Step 6: Follow the prompts from the installation program to install the drivers. You may have to restart your computer.

Step 7: In your Control Panel/Audio Devices, select the playback device. Depending on device, this may be "Schiit Modi," "Schiit Gen 2 USB" or, in the case of older DACs, "Schiit USB Audio Interface." You may also have to select the device separately in the player software you are using in order to get output.

Step 8: Enjoy your music!
