What Gaming CPU and Cooler?

I purely game and will be pairing the cpu with a GTX 1080. What CPU should I get and what cooler should I accompany it with?

8700k with a Dark Rock Pro 4 (not NH-D15 cuz it’s big and ugly and the DRP4 performs as well but it’s beautiful) or if you wanna save some money the 8700 with an H7. 8600k with the same cooler as the 8700k if you wanna overclock or i5 8400 if you really want to save money. As for the AMD side the 2700x with stock cooler or an H7 (or DRP4 if you really wanna be cool). R5 2600x with stock cooler as well or an H7.

There might be be better options for the price for AMD side but I’m an intel fanboy (for now cuz it’s what I need) lel

AIO options are NZXT x52 62 or 72

Corsair H100i pro, h115i pro or H150i pro

i7 has 6 cores, 12 threads.

In games, not a huge difference but in content creation, the 6 extra threads really help.

I see people using 3rd gen i7 cpus but people are already complaining about the 6600k and stuff. Does HT really make cpus last that much longer?

You guys forgot hyperthreading which can really help in games like BF1 but that’s in the minority so I guess it doesn’t really matter as much

Depends on the budget and what you'll use the PC for.

I’d say yes. BF1 is a good example of HT but some people might not agree with me so :P

Personally I got an 8700 with an H7 since I didn’t want to overclock and have excess heat which would result me in getting a better cooler as well as a better motherboard and that = cash :P

For just gaming, the 8400 is plenty. An M9i or Pure Rock Slim, if you don't want to use the stock cooler.

Some games that require less from the cpu it doesn’t matter as much but when time goes on (assuming you want to keep that cpu for a while) hyperthreading would probably help out

A few questions:

What is your budget for only your MOTHERBOARD, CPU and COOLER?

What resolution and refresh rate will you be playing at?

Well since longetivity isnt an issue you don’t really have to worry about having hyperthreading or anything so any cpu will do fine for that amount of time

AMD's Ryzen cpu's are a noticeable amount cheaper than Intel's cpus.

apparently they're slightly less optimized for gaming, but honestly most modern cpu's are overkill for gaming anyway.
