So I need a new laptop

So I am getting a bonus of $700 real soon, and I want to spend $600, but absolutely nothing more than $650 on a decent laptop. I have a few requirements.

 

  • 1080p is a must
  • backlit keyboard is a must
  • dedicated GPU is a must
  • at least a quad core
  • at least 8gb of ram
  • would like a nice trackpad
  • dont really care about audio, i generally use earbuds
  • nothing too big, im upgrading from an 11.6" macbook air from 2011
  • need ssd storage, or the ability to put in an m.2 or something

I plan to use this for school so nothing too gamery, but i also do intend to do some light gaming on it (League of Legends, GMOD, Minecraft). This is the least of my worries but i would like somewhat reasonable render times for 1080p video footage, because i will probably use it as a travel video editing system for when im not at my main rig. 

 

I/O req

  • id like hdmi, but can adapt from type c if i must
  • ethernet is just like hdmi for me here
  • i need at least some decent i/o
  • would like an sd card slot, but not essential seeing as i already have an adapter cuz my macbook doesnt have one

 

THIS NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO CONNECT TO THE 5GHZ BAND OF WIFI PLS.

 

I have no preference of windows over os x, i honestly like os x for productivity, but i intend to game lightly, so i would prefer windows here.

how is that mx150 gpu? and i havent really looked much into 8th gen intel cpus, how do those ones preform?

Im not opposed to ryzen, my main rig has a R5 1600X, i didnt know ryzen laptops were a thing, i barely noticed that Ryzen Gen 2 dropped, so idk. If it will get me 60+ fps in league, minecraft, and gmod, it is fine by me.

I would suggest Swift 3. If you want good I/O, Aspire 5

link? honestly wont matter, will be using a mouse most of the time, but when i say nice, i mean nicer than the $150 HP Shitop trackpads.

Go for models with MX150. Vega 10 is slightly behind a 940MX (MX130) GDDR5

There's no UHD model for Swift 3. This Asus model is meh.
