Which would be a better choice for gaming and streaming? I also plan on editing a lot but in 1080p60fps and some 4K (just iPhone clips).

I have a $750-1250 budget and the two pcs i have found are:

acer predator Helios 300 laptop

i7 8750h, 16gb ddr4, GTX 1060 6gb, 256ssd

custom built desktop

intel i5 8400

gtx 1060 6gb

8gb ddr4

250ssd

which would y’all recommend i am going to upgrade to 16gb later on if the desktop really needs it.

8400 has higher single threaded performance which will help you in gaming, but for streaming you want as many cores as possible. RYzen 7 has 8 cores/16 threads, i5-8400 has 6 cores/6 threads.

I don't need a 1080 Ti for the games I play but I still have one. Always get the most powerful hardware you can within your budget, plus you might upgrade to a 1440p panel later

I only have one display at 60hz and I’ll be mostly working with fortnite clips and streaming. Do i really need the extra threads for editing in 1080p60fps with some light 4K

You don't need to cap your gameplay at 60fps to stream at 60fps, but if you're only gaming on a 1080p 60hz monitor an RX 570/580 will be fine

Could just add the cooler later

A 2nd monitor is highly useful for streaming. That one's also 1080p IPS 75hz with free-sync.

You 100% want the 8 core for streaming/recording.

For streaming the extra cores will be a great help. Additionally to go along with the build I suggest a monitor upgrade to something like a cheap 4K monitor which you'll need a powerful GPU like a 1070 Ti to game on

The difference in CPU performance between the i5 8400 and R7 1700?

You're going to want the RX 580 8GB over the 1060, mostly for free-sync savings, but the extra VRAM may be useful.

Yes. Very. Basically you give your game 4 cores/8 threads and give OBS 4 cores/8Threads

5b555041bf75e_CPUutilizationwhilestreaming.jpg.d8aaf0b3cf2e077d9a68f26605c7e32f.jpg

Ryzen has more headroom while streaming here, meaning less chance for dropped frames, or being able to push the quality higher

Ryzen is also easier to keep cool due to the soldered IHS.

Useless website, look for actual reviews/testing

There's no reason to wait to buy a GPU, unless you don't actually have the $1200 right now?

In which case you should be buying a decent R3 2200G/R5 2400G machine.

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?
