How do I record 240Hz in OBS. It's set at 60Hz.

it seems that 120fps is the max that OBS will let you record at.

I don't believe any codec you'd use (my guess would be h264) can record at 240fps.

H.264 should work theoretically but I don't think FFMPEG or OBS supports the required h.264 level to record 240fps

to record in 240fps uses so much power like on phones the slow mo modes usually run about 240fps but the resolution get dropped down to 720p or lower there's no reason to record that fast anyway cause its going to look really weird in playback afterwards just stick with 60fps you'll be fine

At least its 240, a number that is divisible by 30 and 60 so although there may be weird playback, it will still be much better than 144, 180, 200 ect.

yeah but my bet is it will play back at 60fps or 30fps so like 1/4 or 1/8th speed

To add to this, 240 FPS recording might be fine for slo-mo shots, but if you want 240 FPS to playback at 240 FPS... yeah no. 99.9999% of your audience likely can't even view it at that frame rate.

Highest I've seen any recording software support is 120fps.

I've recorded at 144fps by setting the FPS inside the Settings -> Video to "Fractional FPS Values" and set it to 144 in the first box and 1 in the second box. It does take a LOT of CPU/GPU power to record at 240fps though. In my test (that I did just now as I was typing this response) that while using my GTX 1080 to record 1440p with the Nvenc encoder, GPU Usage jumped to 30% and my 6700K was using about 20%, and this was just while having a browser open.

Recording at H265 is a bad time, it has awful encoding performance and is more geared for storing high quality video than it is for recording to. You should only really use it to encode video that was already recorded, and only do so if you aren't planning on editing it and just want to save space on storing it.

 

I use NVENC.

NVENC is just a hardware acceleration for encoding/decoding video. NVENC though OBS is just hardware acceleration for h264. If you selected Output Mode to "Advanced" and then Type to "Custom Output (FFmpeg)" then you can select the container format to be MP4 and then the Video Encoder to hevc_nvenc, but I promise you that it won't be a good time.
