My CPU is constantly at 88 degrees Celsius help!

Well basically what the title says, I have a liquid cooler with a single fan, I don't know the brand name or model, I've had it for about 2 years (it's probably older since I bought it used) the CPU is an i7-4790

Is this at load or idle? Is your CPU overclocked? Is it mounted properly? Does it have good airflow? Is it clean?

Quote me to see my reply!

Is it at 88 steady and never changes? If so sounds more like faulty sensor or monitoring program

try checking if the cooler has come loose and maybe add some new thermal paste another thing you could do is try a different program to check the cpu temps if that doesn't work then i do not know what else you can do sorry

Have you made sure the pump is working? if the tubes are warm by the cpu block i would guess the pump failed (assuming it is getting power)

It may be possible to hear or feel vibrations from the pump if it is working

i am also assuming the case and radiator fans are working

Am i the only one that thinks a cpu being one specific temperarure constantly sounds more like something is going wrong in the temperature reporting system rather than the cooling system?

I mean it's not always at 88 degrees but with just some light gaming or programming it shoots up to 88 also i said the pc is mine but it's my cousins and he asked me help but I really don't know how to fix this so I don't know much about how the pc is mounted but when I opened the pc it looked like the cooler was properly mounted

+ Ask your cousin if he tweaked or did anything else with the cpu settings.
