VEGA w/ freesync OR just a 1080

So i'm building my first PC and ive got most of my parts picked out or bought, but i'm struggling with deciding what graphics card to get. I just got a really good deal on a monitor (LG-34UC79G-B, 2560x1080, 144Hz) with freesync, so I'm leaning towards a VEGA 56 or maybe even a 64 if i can find one for a good deal, but i'm wondering if being able to take advantage of free sync would give me better graphics than just getting a GTX 1080? My other specs so far are: Ryzen 5 2600X and 16gb DDR4-3600.

VEGA with Freesync will give you a much better experience than just a 1080 with no adaptive sync technology.

Vega with freesync for sure!

I would save $100 and get the vega56.

yup, Variable Refresh Rate is really awesome. Many might think i'm exaggerating, but in my Opinion, for a Gamer, VRR (Freesync or G-Sync, doesn't matter. The result matters) is the best invention of the past decade for the Gaming area - at least if you're somewhat sensitive to Screentearing or Stuttering.

For example, i would rather play with 45 fps perfectly smooth (smooth = even frametimes, no tearing/stuttering), than 55-65 fps with Tearing (V-Sync OFF) or Stuttering (V-Sync ON). i've seen it with my 1080p 60 Hz Monitor and the new 1440p / 144 Hz / G-Sync monitor afterwards, 45 Hz with G-Sync feels much smoother/cleaner than 55 fps on a 60 Hz Monitor with stuttering.

With a Freesync Monitor, i would even take a Vega 56 over a GTX 1080, despite having 10-15% more performance and at the same time less power consumption.
