GPU's fans spin but no display

hujub

I'm not sure what the issue is with no display but spinning gpu fans. Is my graphics card dead and need to get a new one?

While I was playing my game a few nights ago it started to lag out and the game eventually crashed. I started up the game again and my computer just gave me a blue screen after lagging out once more. After the reboot, the back light for my monitor came on but there was no display. However, this wasn't the first time I was having issues. When I was pulling out my graphics card from my old motherboard a few months ago, while I was upgrading, I made the mistake of pulling it out by force instead of looking for any locked notches or anything like that. After slotting in the graphics card into my new motherboard I found that my games started crashing. PUBG crashed completely, Overwatch had this weird issue of rendering only my character and not the map, and League of Legends had weird green blotches in the background of the map.

So I opened up my computer and found that the GPU's fans were spinning but the VGA (which I assume is just for GPU) LED came on my motherboard's EZ Debug. So took out my graphics card and plugged in the display cable into my motherboard and tried to fix it.

the things I have tried so far:

  1. disable intel HD graphics and reinstall graphics card

  2. update my bios through flash

  3. tried both HDMI and DVI ports on the graphics card

  4. I tried to update my GPU drivers but couldn't since it wasn't connected my motherboard. And the only way for me to get display was to disconnect GPU from mobo completely

  5. Clean out the PCI slot

  6. Start computer with only 1 ram stick installed

  7. Take out and replace CMOS battery

after all these attempts the VGA Debug LED still comes on during boot. I found the LED turning off eventually (takes around 2 minutes) and the back light for my monitor turning on but still no display.

I'm not sure what I should do... Thank you for your time and any advice is appreciated!

So a quick update:

I went into bios and set the primary display to integrated graphics (disabling PGE) and reinstalled my GPU. I was able to download Nvidia drivers and the gaming experience program was able to recognize that the system had a GPU installed.

I went back into bios and changed the primary display to PGE and tried both HDMI and DVI on my graphics card but no luck... It is POST-ing and I can log into windows (I can hear the Windows boot up music and login sound) but no display :(

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

You know there is always the chance that you might have damaged something. Are there any visual damages (or something that doesn't look right) on the pcie slot? Providing pictures would help.

But this time press the little clip on the right side of the pcie slot down before taking the gpu out :P

On general note: If you start having issues while gaming it's always good to open up a programm like afterburner to take a look at what your hardware is doing and provide us with that info.

If you find any grammar or spelling errors please fill out entry permit A38, thanks.

Ya... I should have known better than to yank it out by force... Never a good idea LOL.

I posted a link for the pictures below.

I did try to open up Afterburner when these issues happened but everything was so laggy, including my desktop,  I could only open up the program after it became functional.

All your contacts on the card look ok.

Have you tried moving the card into one of the other PCIe slots? The reason I ask is you may have bent one of the pins in the actually slot itself which may be causing an intermittent short.

Something to look at on the board itself.

Wondering around the web in a dark haze

Ya I tried the other PCIe slot on my mobo but I still don't get a display. Also, when I pulled out the GPU by force it was on my old motherboard (pre-upgrade) so I think the pins on my current mobo is ok.

You still got the old mobo? Test the gpu on the old system and see if the issue still exist. That will rule out if it's the gpu or something else.

Also if you got a spare harddrive: I would plug it in and disconnect your regular boot drive and do a clean installation of windows on the spare drive. This will rule out any software issues.

If possible, id try the graphics card in another PC and see if it gives a signal, and i'd also try another graphics card in your PC and see if it works.

I guess you kind of already tested the second one using iGPU, but its not a bad idea to test the PCIe slot.

If the video card doesn't work in another PC, id inspect for physical damage without disassembly and contact tech support with the manufacturer if its still under warranty. If its not under warranty, narrow down other possible problems first.

I tried the GPU on my friend's computer and it was the same...

All the parts from my old computer are at my parents' house. I will try once I go to visit them over the weekend!

Thank you for your inputs!! :)

I tried the GPU on my friend's computer and I got the same results. No display but screen back light coming on and heard Windows boot up sound. I just tried GTX 1060 and it works perfectly fine. I think it might actually be the graphics card issue...

Also, Thank you for your inputs!

Still got warranty on the gpu? If yes I would send it in without mentioning anything about ripping it out.
