i7 5820k would be better in open world games, as it has 6c, the i5 6600k is better in cs:go and other single thread games.

5820K, but it depends what you want to do with it. My friend runs the 5820K at 4.8GHz easily.

If you look for a CPU just for Games, 4790K.

5820K is a 140W chip at 22nm whereas 6600k is a 14nm chip at 90W. Better than both is the 8700k ~ 90W chip at 14nm and faster. Plus you have the 9th gen with you too.

8700k will consume less power and perform better than 5820k.

Main system (Mini itx 80mm)

i5-7500 | Asrock h110m | Noctua L9i | Realan H80 Case | 8GB 2400 Ram ADATA | M600 SSD | 500 GB Seagate

Other System (Laptop)

i7 3632QM | Toshiba | 8GB Corsair VS RAM | Sandisk SSD PLUS | 500GB Toshiba HDD

The R5 1600 edges out the i7 5820K clock for clock.

Two options with intel:

8700: $270 used on ebay

H310: $50

16 GB DDR4: $140

= $560

OR

8400 $160 on ebay

H310: $50

8GB DDR4: $70-80

= $290

What about:

I7 8700 (non k)

H370 or B360 motherboard

16gb ddr4 ram or 8gb ddr4

Would be better then both of those and will offer you more support less power usage and warranties.

PC specs:

I7 8700

1x 8gb Ballistix Elite 3200MHZ

MSI Gaming Trio RTX 2080

G650M PSU

120gb Kingston SSD

3TB of HDD

NZXT S340 elite Black/Red

@Savage Tech

Oh hell, go with that deal.

If you know anybody with Amazon Prime (it's Prime Day), see if they can find a better deal ...or even a sale on DDR4 RAM.

EDIT:

For Prime Day, there is a similar combo..

https://www.amazon.com/Intel-i7-8700K-Processor-Motherboard-Generation/dp/B07D3Q6CRR/ref=gbps_tit_m-8_5ba0_d4eb94c6?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=0d8de7f5-6ea2-40ab-ada3-e74de5295ba0&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-8&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_i=13887280011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=AAT0NSW0Z98EVB9H4BYC

i7-8700K + ASUS ROG STriX Z370-E + 32GB Intel M.2 Optane

$449.99

The Z370-E should be the higher end motherboard.

Not sure if you need the Optane drive, though....

But $20 gets you a better motherobard + Optane drive.

A single 8GB stick of memory is going for $75 ~ $80  (goes up from there).
