Ram won't OC

So I have quad channel 4x4 = 16GB 1866mhz. A friend gave me 2 (8gb) = 16GB  sticks that run at 2133mhz. I removed my G.Skill and no matter how/where I put the Corsair it won't OC past 1333mhz in either channels 1/3 or 2/4. I thought maybe because the sticker on the side says it was 32gb kit, but I didn't think that would cause the basically horrible OC.

If the system in your sig is still current, it was never quad channel. Regular consumer class i7 CPUs have dual channel memory with two slots per channel. So that has nothing to do with the problem at least.

 

And how are you overclocking? It should simply be a matter of applying the XMP profile and maybe upping the voltage a tad. Have you reset the CMOS before switching memory? Because it might be trying to force the timings of your older lower latency memory.

try reset CMOS. I need that to make my motherboard apply XMP properly

I didn't reset the CMOS beforehand. I just went into the bios and set the ram frequency to 1600mhz because most stock motherboards/ram default @ 1600mhz. The pc would just boot and say overclock failed and stated it needed to be at 1333mhz.  I assumed I never had to touch the voltage because both mine and the corsair run at 1.5v.

 

I've got 2 kits of these that run no problem at 1866mhz 1.5v
