Overclocking XFX RX 480

Aidan Hartline

I have had my New system for around 4 Months now and I absolutly Love it. I overclocked the CPU and have made pleanty of Tweaks. But I am not very familiar with Graphics Card Overclocking. I have a XFX RX 480 8gb with the Swappable Fans. I am just not very Familiar with the Software required for the OC and I'm not completely sure how to set that up or Optimize it. So what is the best solution for trying to Overclock the GPU?

Download MSI afterburner and change the memory timings and core clock speed. I got my memory to 2250 and clock to 1400 using the same card.

you dont need any software, the amd driver itself has the required tools, there are multiple ways to overclock an rx480, you can go all out by increasing the voltage and then being able to overclock more, or you can see how far you can push it with the stock or slightly above stock voltage.

though memory clocks yeild the most performance gain without any increase in power or heat.

the voltage for memory controler isnt the voltage for the memory controler as the memory controler seems to run on vcore, the voltage you set there will work as a minimum voltage for the core, using hwinfo64 you can track memory errors which is very useful to find out if your memory is stable,

overclocking the core is as simple as setting a voltage (safe range is 0.9-1.2) and then increasing the core clock until its not stable then back off a bit, though increasing the power limit is a must so that the core is free to boost all the way up.

while testing stability games are the best bet, and to keep an eye on what's going on with the gpu you can use RTSS along with hwinfo64 to have the gpu sensors on the sreen while you are gaming, (1 install hwinfo and rtss, then open both, go to hwinfo's settings, there will be a rtss tab up top, there you will find a list of hundreds of sensors, scroll down untill you see rx480 inside braquets, then click on a sensor you want to watch and click on show in osd, to the right you set the position of the sensor, do this for the sensors you want to see then apply, next time you open a game it should work, also add cpu utilization to this as to know if the cpu is bottlenecking your gpu.

if you want to do hardcore stuff, then the next step up is modifing the bios, but thats for latter
