Regarding Overclocking 8600K to 4.6GHz

Hi, so my overclock arm is itching again and I kind of want to go up to higher than 4.4GHz, since that's literally 0.1GHz higher than boost clock speeds so it seems like a pathetic overclock in that big picture. I currently have my 8600K set to 4.4GHz as previously mentioned, and now I feel like going to somewhere around the grounds of 4.5 or even 4.6GHz just to get that little bit more oomph out of my CPU. (and subsequently my garbage motherboard VRMs)

In classic seoz fashion, I have a few questions:

1. Is there any real-world difference in going from 4.4GHz to 4.6GHz?

2. Is a 4.6GHz overclock significant enough when I cap my games to 75FPS anyway? (I have a 75Hz monitor)

3. Will there be any significant electricity bill increases from going up to 4.6GHz?

4. Is a 450W PSU enough to cover a 4.6GHz 1.25V overclock for daily usage? - 1.2V currently

5. Is a 4.6GHz overkill for 60% general usage and 40% gaming?

1. You wont see a difference in real world performance.

2. If your games are capped at 75FPS, it wont make a difference.

3. Like a couple of cents.

4. What GPU are you using? If the system is fully under load, you might get close to that 450W figure.

5. My brother uses his 7700K at 4.8GHz for watching YouTube. No.

1. Your unlikely to notice the difference. Timed tests will be a bit fsater.

2. What frame rate are you getting now? Its going to have a tiny difference in fps.

3. Not really, probably 10-20w more under load, depending on voltage. Make sure speedstep and c states are on if you want to keep power down.

4. Probably, whats the current power use.

5. I don't see a point, I personally won't bother. You  probably won't notice

I'm using a GTX 1060 3GB, can't quite remember how much wattage it uses. 7700K for YouTube... :D

Thanks for the advice!

CSGO gets 300FPS, Rocket League gets 230, TF2 gets 250, and Overwatch gets 140, I cap at 75 though as mentioned before. I actually don't know my current power usage, if I'm honest.

Thanks for the advice, I've not heard of speedstep before but I shall research about it.

You know it! :D Overclock itches are the worst.

I upgraded motherboards and RAM to scratch mine. And now I have to wait for the new board to get here before I can really start scratching.

My motherboard's VRMs are notorious for sucking so the highest I've ever managed was 5GHz for ten minutes, since tapping the 5GHz peak, my OC itch has been intense.

Yea, you chose a wrong motherboard. Asus prime series is low end but expensive. Not a budget choice. Msi or Gigabyte would be better at the same price range.

Yeah it's worse than alcohol, drugs, and sex.

I was familiar with Asus at the time through JayzTwoCent's exposure of Asus Multicore Enhancement, and I liked Asus so that's why I went with this board. Safe to say, it really shot me in the foot choosing this one. :(

No need to laugh at, it performs better when playing 4k or 8k video.

Everyone makes mistakes. At least you learnt something: more expensive is not always better, and YouTubers are not reliable all the time.
