No HDMI connection to MB

Hiho peeps,

 

I just installed a Gigabyte Z87X-OC Force motherboard in my computer case and connected it via HDMI (which is my only option - I don't have a GFX installed).

There's no screen though it's up and running. What should I do? Can't I connect via HDMI without MB drivers installed?

It should work and have basic functionality before installing the intel graphics drivers.

 

What cpu are you using with it? I can't remember whether every 4th generation intel cpu included an IGP - I'm pretty sure they do, but might be worth checking.

 

If you haven't yet, you may want to clear your CMS settings.

If you don't see a post screen, then the integrated GPU is probably deactivated in BIOS. You will have to reset it. If it's still not showing anything check if the cable is working with other sources to rule out a faulty cable. If it's still not working the HDMI port on your mainboard might be faulty. The Z87 series is pretty old and replacements might be hard to come by.

It's only since Skylake that all intel processors across all market segments have included IGP's. It was still worth ruling out as a possibility, although having looked into it in more detail now it seems that since the 4000 series all socketed desktop processors include an IGP.

 

Still, worth knowing, and it was something that could easily be ruled out as a problem.
