Desktop replacement for Photo editing / gaming

Hi guys.

I want to replace my desktop, because more and more of my "work" need to be done on location (tethered shooting etc.)

Right now i got a desktop with i5 6600k, gtx 1070 16 gigs of RAM. Im lookin for a Laptop which is either on par with this, or even can outperform this (cause lightroom/photoshop are very hungry).

im open to almost any kind of solution (external GPU for example, since i only play games when at home). i just need to find the best bang for the buck.

in terms of size, it shouldnt surpass 15.x inch since i need it on the go. Processors i already fel in love with are the i5 8300h and i7 8750h. the i5 would be pretty compareable to mine, but the i7 beats the crap out of the 6600k

Now onto the hardest part: which one should i get? Budged is up to 2300 € (living in germany)
If external GPUs work well, i would keep my GTX 1070 (although the Notebook version seems to be almost the same performance)
A thunderbolt port in general would be awesome, cause i got a number of devices at home that i would love to power off a single cable.

Edit: screen needs to be IPS with as close to 100% sRGB as possible (got a Dell 10 bit 100% Adobe RGB at home which ill keep for final editing / softproofing before printing)

Suggestions? :D

well... it should run lightroom for tethering for at least 3-4 hours

size and weight are secondary. it should hafe sufficient cooling for gaming and longer periods of CPU stress when exporting hundrets of photos from lightroom. sure, it would be nice to have a compact lightweight machine, but performance is my no1 priority.

Could you list out all laptops with 8750H/8850H/8950HK that are within your budget?

eGPU has reduced performance via TB3 (even the laptop has x4 PCIe lanes), performance is slightly behind a 1060 even you throw in a 1080

sure. All of the following got a 8750h 16 gigs of ram, a gtx 1070, ips screen (some even with 144 Hertz) and different drive constellations

HP Omen 17

Acer Predator Helios 500

ASUS ROG Strix SCAR

XMG Pro 17

MSI GS65 Stealth Thin

MSI GE73 Raider

Asus ROG Zephyrus

the i7 8850 and above seem to be out of the budget

HP Omen 17 - OKish build quality and cooling

*Acer Helios 500 - OKish build quality

Asus GL703GS - cooling cannot handle 1070

*Clevo PA71ES-G - mediocre cooling (due to thin profile), can buy from PCZentrum, Mifcom, Tuxedo, One Gaming and CSL Computer

MSI GS65 - not even a full 1070, OKish build quality, OK-mediocre cooling

*MSI GE Raider - OK-good cooling (due to portable profile)

*Asus Zephyrus M

Undervolting+repaste are highly recommended. I'll choose those with *

Note that powerful gaming laptops don't have great battery life even under light load

Does undervolting affect performance or just the cooling efficiency? Repasting would be no issue for me, since i have to open it up anyway for drive installation.

price to performance the Omen looks best to me, any info on cooling performance of the Helios 500?

Performance will not be affected unless you undervolted too much. Cooling will be improved

After endless research, thinking and "OMG what should get" I went for the Omen.

I ordered the version linked a few posts above. Price was a huge factor since a 512 GB nvme drive was included and the screen got 98% sRGB coverage. Battery is almost as big as it can get and from reviews 5 hours of mixed office load is good enough for me.

Thanks ZM Fong for your advices :)
