Mic not being found on windows 10

RiverO

Hello, I just built my first gaming pc 3 weeks ago, on my motherboard there are 6 different places to put a audio jack into. 1 of them makes my mic work, but not my earbuds, the other makes my earbuds work but not my mic. The other 4 dont do anything.  I am using a bose set of earbuds, but I have tried multiple headphones and none of them work. I dont remember installing any audio drivers, but I think that there all up to date. I would really apprichiate it if you guys could help me. Keep in mind im really new to pc's so I wont know any fancy words ;). Thanks

Hi RiverO,

if you have 5 inputs that means that they are used seperately.

there each have their own output/ input.

your Bose ear buds have a combined audio jack, this means that you probably have 3 rings on the jack itself separating the different channels.

your pc does not know that this is the case and isn't hardwired to handle such type of connections.

that is why it word in 1 port but not the other.

I have two questions, do you have the specific type of earbuds, and does the mic work on Android or IOS?

( this is a difference in wiring and determens what kind of splitter you can use to fix your this problem)

Thank you so much! Yes it does it have 3 rings around the jack. My headphones are https://www.bose.com/en_us/products/headphones/earphones/soundsport-in-ear-headphones-apple-devices.html#v=soundsport_ie_headphones_ii_apple_charcoal and they I know they work for my apple phone, but I dont know if the mic works.

Okay i know that the mic works because you have gotten it to work on one of the ports.

now here comes the tricky part:

you'll have to look for a CTIA splitter, one that has 2 jack male and 1 female.

the CTIA is the standard used by apple.

I hope this helps

Also, sorry last question. Currently I use a audio jack extender because my normal headphones can not reach my ports. Would I still be able to use my audio jack extender when buy this splitter?

Depends on the extender, does it also have 3 rings?

No, it has 2. If thats going to be a problem I can always buy another extender. I just really want my headphones and mic to work

If it only has 2 rings that means it extends only 2 channels. Probably left and right audio so no line for the mic.

Ok, so what should I buy if I wanted a line for a mic? Im really new so I would have no clue which ones to buy. If you could tell me a extender and splitter that would be appreciated. Or just tell me what to look for

You can get an extender and a splitter seperately but i would look for a longer splitter.

One that has more cable. Because more extentions means more resistance in the cable.

Simple version: the sound quality could become less.

How far do you have to extend it?

The splitter i linked has 12 feet (30cm) of cable length and that combined with the cable length of your earbuds should be a reasonable lenght

The PS4 uses the same connection as apple so that one should be okay.

(i have used apple earbuds on the ps4)
