YouTube is terminating accounts that promote Twitch Streams

YouTube is now starting to enforce it's ancient policy of promotion of Twitch affiliated channels by outright terminating users accounts in accordance with its terms of service according to a report from Engadget today. This is coming after LinusTechTips, Surny and Aztrosizt complained that YouTube temporarily terminated their accounts. YouTube is now taking this one step further by threatening to permanently terminate channels.

The fight between YouTube and Twitch just got a little uglier. Producers like Linus Tech Tips, Surny and Aztrosizt have complained that YouTube abruptly (though temporarily) terminated their accounts for using videos to promote their Twitch streams, such as LTT's The WAN Show. It's not that the videos weren't violating rules (the site has long forbidden videos that primarily "drive people off of YouTube").

 

Rather, it's that YouTube is only now enforcing the rules for videos promoting Twitch streams, and that it's being unusually aggressive -- it immediately terminated accounts instead of issuing strikes. This is oddly harsh when the company has been softer on channels that have done much worse, such as pushing false conspiracies that could lead to harassment and threats.

When reached out for further clarification on the permanent bans they failed to answer the question clearly enough and referred users back to a Twitter post made last month

"You can absolutely create videos that promote or link to Twitch! And there's no new enforcement. As stated in our Community Guidelines, if the content's main/sole purpose is to drive people off YouTube and onto another site, it will likely violate our spam policies." 

YouTube has since removed the strikes and the bans on some not all channels that posted videos referring to their Twitch channels however the bans are raising some questions over YouTube's consistancy with bans and it's very own code of conduct.

The sooner someone develops an alternative to YouTube the better.

Hopefully Floatplane turns out to be a big success(RIP Vessel), and more content creators can use that.

You tube should get some kind of 'shot myself in the foot' award. It will drive the creators main point of contact with their audience off platform, which is what they are trying to avoid.

Only on the desktop version and I think only on the 'newer' look

dam it YouTube screw off, first your making may videos in 360P for days and now your trying to screw creators even more. :(
