No POST, No beep, Fans all running

Dandaring

Hi guys,

Moving onto my third PC build now and came across a new problem!

So I bought a CPU and Motherboard second hand (risky I know), and after installing everything in the case, there is no POST at all, I’ve taken out the RAM to try and force the memory failure beeps from the motherboard and still no luck. So after this I thought it was a motherboard issue - when a new one came and I installed everything again, the same thing has happened. Before I invest in a new CPU, is there anything else I could try or that it could be? Also the PSU is brand new too.

Currently I have tried the following;

Reseating RAM.

Trying different RAM.

Reset BIOS via CMOS battery.

Holding power button for 1 minute with PSU out of wall mains.

Different adapters and monitors.

I'm guessing the CPU is dead - however this is as far as my knowledge goes...any opinions and suggested are appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

Did you try to boot with just 1 RAM stick?

Yes, still no luck! Unfortunately I don’t have a spare CPU to test but it has to be the CPU

What CPU are you trying on what motherboard?

Fx 6300 on a new ASRock 970M Pro3. Both AM3+ sockets so should be compatible

Did you plug in all the power cables. I had a problem because i forgot to power my cpu. (motherboard top left corner)

Yep, all power cables are in - that was my problem with my first build ?

Should work with no problem indeed, I'd test with a minimal setup. just the cpu, a stick of ram, anything to give you display and indeed make sure all power cables are connected correctly. (test it out side of your case on a piece of cardboard or something)

I have tried breadboarding it and still no display or post...would you say it’s the CPU? Not much options left

Honestly I doubt it is your CPU even though it aint new.. I think you have a bigger chance that that motherboard is dead on arival.

That is quite likely, happened to me once before. Will order a new CPU and report back. Thanks for your help

I can confirm it was actually both a mixture of a fried CPU and a broken socket in the motherboard...talk about luck eh? xD all running now is the main thing.

Damn im scared now to buy a used cpu that i really need

By the sounds of it I was just really unlucky as CPU's usually don't die as much and tbh this is the first CPU i've ever had that's failed me!
