Intel Wifi and Bluetooth chips will not be in 2020 iPhones

Apple has notified Intel that they will not be using Intel's "Sunny Peak" modem for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Intel then started working on another platform in hopes to tease Apple into having the modems reappear in 2022 iPhones. Intel has said that Apple was the "main volume driver" for the "Sunny Peak" modems. As for Apple, this means numerous things. Either Apple is going to look to new providers such as MediaTek for wireless connectivity, or Apple will possibly try to bring things back together with Qualcomm.

Whole picture of what? We are in a thread about 5g tech. Intel have no "market share" that can be spoken of, they are undoubtedly the underdog in this fight. Also doesn't change the fact that it's bad for consumers if Qualcomm holds the monopoly.

 

Edit: It seems I misread this. I thought it was a 5g/wifi/Bluetooth package like in Qualcomm but they are separated in Intel's case. Apple might still use Intel's 5g chip after all.
