So I'm deciding to buy used gpu. I'm either going for a r9 280x or a rx 560. I will make sure they are not used for mining. The r9 280x performs better than the 560 but the 560 is more new. The 280x is only 3gb while the 560 il be looking at is 4gb. So if you guys don't mind help me out here. What would be the pros and cons and what gpu should I be buying.

System Specs:

AMD Athlon x4 880k (overclocked 4,0-4,2 GHz)

AMD r7 260x 2gb

Hyperx fury black ddr3 8gb 2x4

1Tb hhd (No ssd)

Easy, go RX 560, it draws less power, unless you find R9 280X very cheap for me new cards are always the best choice

obviously the R9-280x.. it's a no brainer, even if it has 3GB, that's not gonna hurt it in any way because it's not a high end card that can handle more textures in its memory etc etc, having 4GB on an RX 560 is just useless.

I doubt that.
Look at the specs.

There is no way the 560 beats Tahiti ever!

Pitcairn, maybe, butnot Tahiti.

What Power Supply do you have? That's pretty important as you usually should have a decent quality one. Especially for higher power cards like the R9-280X. And depending on the card, it can make sense to flash the "normal" 7970 BIOS like it is possible and recommended on Gigabyte Cards. The Original 7970OC is by far the best of the three (7970GHz and 280X), because its quieter...

That's not always possible and the GHz BIOS makes no sense because its the same card...

Anyway:
If you have a decent PSU, go for the 280X, although its older and thus the probability of getting a dead or dying one high.

That's always something to keep in mind, that it doesn't have to last...

280x. It doesn't really make a difference if it was mined on.

That's an F in the profile pic

My honest opinion: neither. Get an SSD instead and save up for a more sensible upgrade. A 280X won't be used to its full potential with a bulldozer Athlon.

SSD first, not graphics card. I'd say replace the graphics card, CPU, mobo and RAM all at once, once you save up, say $500.

because you can reuse your storage drive in a new build. It also makes the operating system far more responsive, though frame rates in games will be the same as before.

Bulldozer aren't that bad, especially if the Software is optimized well for all architectures. Than bulldozer does shine and an FX8350 can keep up with either an I5-4670 or even an i7-4770.

This is just an Athlon, though. The 8350 at least has the benefit of having a fuckton of cores and cache.

Yes, and?
Its still better than an Intel Pentium wich would be in the same price range because it can run more games than the Pentium can.

What you guys don't understand is that we are talking about a Sub 100€ CPU that is sold for 50-60€ new right now. From "the other Side"; you'd only ge something like a Pentium G-Series if you are Lucky, with only 2 Cores and 2 Threads.

And the i3 started at around 120€ or even more. Those prices were rediculous, even in 2014 or so...

With tripple the price, you should expect better performance...

PS: I'm writing these lines from a similar processor: A10-7850K
Because its way better than the overhyped Celeron G1820 I had before this system...

Nobody is nagging about the Pentium, and you're kinda wrong as the G4560 is actually faster than this thing in every way. Lol.

I understand your hardon for these obsolete junk chips, but don't claim they're magical.

That benefits the user in what way, when the Game refuses to start because 4 Threads are required???

I said as much that there are games that won't run on a Pentium so stop glorifying this Office CPU!

I'm merly correcting your FUD against this CPU, wich is pretty nice FOR THE PRICE, wich seems to be something you completely ignore.

So the facts are:

a) performance is OK for the money

b) he can run all games

c) if he got a Pentium he could not

And there are always bugs in the Graphics drivers that cripple the performance on Dual Core/Dual Thread CPUs so that the games run like shit....

So yeah, any 4 Thread CPU is better than a 2 Thread/Core CPU!
