how to move only the os to an ssd?

hello this is my first time posting in a ltt forum

 

just wanted to ask how to migrate only the os (windows 10) to an m.2 ssd because i used 600 gb of my hdd and want to buy 250 gb ssd and boot my windows faster and one game faster!

the best way is to do a fresh install of windows on the SSD, that way Windows automatically sets every setting it needs for an SSD and you can be sure that it works.

hello, thanks for replying! im asking if all my documents are going to stay on my hdd and can i still use them? i just want only one game on the nvme m.2 sdd and my windows

Yes. Just disconnect your harddrive when doing the Windows install. This way, you won't suddenly have the boot partition still be on the hdd and you can't accidentally wipe it.

so when i put my hdd back and turn on the pc is all my files from the hdd will be there? and it will boot faster? thanks!

The SSD will make Windows boot faster. All files will be kept on the hard drive, unless you delete or format them.
