8 mobile GPU's in 1 desktop PC for gaming????????

I have recently seen MXM to PCIe riser boards that let you run 4 mobile GPU's in 1 16 lane PCIe slot on your desktop motherboard. An example is here: https://harddiskdirect.com/713700-002-hp-multi-mxm-pci-express-riser-board-for-proliant-ws460c-gen8.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxvn8q5KJ3AIVRUSGCh2b_g0SEAQYASABEgJHovD_BwE

I am wondering if...... 1. It actually works. 2. If it works, is it faster than any single GPU on the market today? 3. IF it works, can you run it in SLI and effectively have 8 cards pushing the games (or mining.....whatever).

If it doesn't work, I am wondering if a single mobile CPU can work in a standard desktop PCIe port using single card adapters such as the ones manufactured by Eurocom. Example seen here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Eurocom-MXM3-Riser-Cards-will-power-your-desktop-with-a-laptop-GPU.241042.0.html This setup sounds more probable and could be a great way to maximize efficiency if someone is transitioning from a gaming laptop to a desktop.

Finally, other companies make MXM to PCIe riser boards for mining that only run 75 watts and have no connectors for power other than your SATA power cable that are dirt cheap and advertised for miners. Do these actually work? An example can be seen here: https://www.ebay.com/i/253637845314?chn=ps

Testing all these different configurations out could make for a good episode or a couple good episodes.

I'm pro sli and CF but two cards tops anything more is a waste of money. That's prolly for mining and I wouodnt watch it cuz four cards in one slot would run like crap.

at 500$ a peice excluding the gpus.
Id rather buy a 1080ti.
there's no way this is a better solution than going with a desktop gpu.

That is a good point. Cost efficiency is definitely a priority. I, personally, am in a situation where I have several old gaming laptop computers and am transitioning to a desktop. 1 was mine and a few others belonged to other people that pretty much gave them to me when they wanted to get rid of them. All have GTX 980m's in them. Just ran them mining and have long since gotten ROI back. Was wondering if I could save some $$ when I build the desktop by using the parts I already have on hand. (each GPU has the heat sync and blower fans that I would move into my case). I guess I could also just sell them, but I think such a setup may look unique and cool in the desktop. Kinda a conversation centerpiece. I haven't seen anybody actually attempt it though.

Take that 500 buy a 1070ti their nice don't Jerry rig some old stuff in hopes it works and potentially waste 500 you could of used for a good gpu.

that's probably the best advice. I'm still curious if it would actually work though. Imaging a 7 gamer 1 CPU type build where every person has 4 GPUs. Not practical for the average person at all, but would still be pretty cool. Also, might work out well to make an  OP small form factor machine.

it would probably work ok
but I doubt SLI would work.

and don't forget about, well, driver issues, software not running properly.. things that generally come with a weird setup like this.
