What is better for a beginner ATX or MATX

Hi I want to build my first PC and i need some advise. I've herd that both atx and matx are good options for a first timer but is there one that is better then the other? I've herd it's easier to work with a bigger case but i like the smaller form factor and is one cheaper then the other??? also whats the deal with mid-cases and  other cases what motherboard fits in what i'm just really confused and what is a good power spully because some of them are super expensive. THANKS FOR THE HELP

honestly, its not a problem either way.
but if you want a smaller case, mATX is the way to go.

you're mostly missing out on PCIE expantion slots and not much else.

Definitely ATX. There are very few mATX mobo choices in contrast, often offering less/worse features while charging you more.

for the powersupply, it depends on what hardware you are planning on. (Mostly CPU and GPU)

Cases have specifications for what they can fit in them.
ATX mid towers will fit anything from ATX and below (Micro ATX, Mini ITX)
mATX towers will fit that and Mini ITX. but NOT ATX.

The size of the case doesn't mean its easy to work in. I have a 450D Mid tower from corsair and its ATX. but its a pain to work in tbh.

For overclocking, I suggest ATX boards as MATX boards have less VRM's making them harder to overclock on. You are going to need to shell out a lot of money to get a MATX board that can overclock as well as a ATX board.

You also miss out on expansion slots, PCIe slots and sometimes only get 2 sticks of ram, apposed to ATX's 4 slots, or even 8 slots.

hi.

My first hand-built PC was in mATX and my case was awful to work in. Get a good mATX like a Define Mini C and you'll be fine.

So "ATX" Cases come in two sizes so to speak. "Mid tower" and "Full tower" (there's also super tower but that can be interchanged wiht full tower sometimes) Basically it's a loose rule of how big a case can be, but it's not a standard. (there are some fairly large "mid towers") For most people needs, you do NOT need a Full tower, and most people opt for a Mid tower (again, this is Full ATX) Micro ATX doesnt have any size clarifications, so they're just known as MicroATX or mATX cases. However, many modern mATX cases aernt always considerably smaller than their ATX counterparts, so buying an mATX case "Because all mATX cases are smaller than Mid Towers" isnt always true. Fractal Design's Define C and Riotoro's CR1080 are two good examples of ATX "Mid towers" that are very compact.

ATX Cases will fit ATX, mATX and mITX motherboards

mATX cases will fit mATX and mITX motherboards

As for a beginner. I would advise not overclocing because one wrong move could destroying not only your CPU. But also your motherboard. Both Matx and ATX are awesome for beginners. But I recommend going with a standard ATX components because thay have the most compatibility with other components like graphics cards for instance.

AS much as this can be (sometimes) true, modern motherboards have a lot of built in safety and shutoffs to prevent damage to core components especially due to over clocks. Additionally there are many tutorials demonstrating how to do it properly, and also explaining each settings. I would not caution a beginner away from overclocking, but rather to be a bit more conservative with just randomly experimenting and just going with what works for now.

Depends on the case you choose...

There are great cases for both formfactors and with a good quality case you have less problems inserting the components because of manufacturing tolerances or sharp edges. But also shit like screwholes for the Slots outside the case.

For example this one:
https://geizhals.de/thermaltake-versa-h21-ca-1b2-00m1wn-00-a1492946.html?hloc=at&hloc=de

So you absolutely should look at higher end cases with good quality. Those start at around 80€.

But because its expensive doesn't mean its good. Two examples of that: Nanoxia Deep Silence 5B and Anidees Ai6 V2

If you choose a rather short graphics card and not a very long one, a be quie Silent Base 600 or 800 is a good choice.

I think it really doesn't depend on wether you are a beginner or not. It comes down to pricing, what parts you want to fit in there and other stuff.

In most 1st world countries micro ATX cases cost the same as ATX cases so I'd go ATX if possible because of more expansion options. It's because it is mATX doesn't make it any better or worse in therms of cooling, build quality etc like other people said above but with ATX you can fit mATX, ATX or even EATX cases, if you SLI the cards won't have to be so close to each other and more. Also there are more MID tower cases to choose from

But it also depends on your taste, if you like an specific micro ATX case it's ok and for most people the upgrade options on mATX will be just fine. I just prefer ATX if it doesn't interfere with my budget or aesthetic preferences.
