AMD GPUs seems to have an advantage over the equivalent GeForce models in the BF5 alpha

Ah yes, Battlefield 5. Perhaps one of those titles that might have some controversy looming on the horizon. However, one surprising announcement was that unlike past titles, which had an AMD partnership, BF5 will have an NVIDIA partnership. With that said, at least during the alpha, seems that partnership hasn't shown its effects just yet.

So it really seems that AMD's optimization efforts beginning with the Mantle API on Battlefield 4 and GCN seems to still be paying off. Particularly worrying is how the GeForce GPUs seem to struggle a bit on DX12 when the Radeon ones seem to not break much of a sweat

Still, at least the GTX 1080 Ti is still nailing gaming performance - it was delivering a pleasing 114fps at 1080p Ultra settings. Though it too was struggling with DX 12, losing around 14fps on average compared with the DX 11 performance.

It's too early to tell whether AMD cards still get an advantage to this degree at launch but there is plenty of time to have the delta closed. Let's just hope that the delta is closer by improving the performance when on GeForce models rather than having AMD GPUs gimped.

Hasn't this been the case with most Frostbite games since Battlefield 4, though?

It's really all down to the engine's optimization rather than the cards being objectively better or worse, in this case.

It's probably due to heavy use of async computing. Ya know, Pascal cards dont support this on a hardware level, instead using CUDA to emulate Async compute.

 

Nvidia loves using excessive tessellation and anti aliasing (especially Gamewrecks games) to make Radeons look bad right? Now how do you like them apples NVidia

I remember that being the advantage Polaris had, which resulted in Polaris GPUs usually winning in DX12

I seriously hope it doesn't go that way.

Just wait when the game gets released it will dump AMDs performance. Something like Hairworks or some effect specificly tailored to Geforce hardware will be included.

You know the situation is bad, when it is news that an AMD card beats a NVidia card in a single game.

 

That being said, we had this before, we will have it again. It is always the same reason as well.

Glad AMD does not go down without a fight, but it will take A LOT more than a few single games and a bunch of hardcore fans to keep the lights on long term.

Lol? Bf5 doesn't use any nvidia game assets

 

Optimisation in general for BF5 is bad. 110fps on a 1080ti at 1080p?!? That's what you'd usually expect from a 1070 or 1080, consideribg the frostbite engine hasn't even changed much (and the textures are the exact same from bf1)

DX12 will be in full swing and be properly used right before it gets replaced with DX13 or w/e, just the way it tends to go. Was the same for DX9, DX11 and will be for DX12.
