Hello JeszY,

There are PCIe slots that are M and B but gladly receive hard drives that were built under the M standard only. Now regarding the question about the SATA and PCIe NVMe, it appears that there are 2 different motherboard for these GL notebooks with the one from Canada being SATA and the US one being NVMe, the 128 GB M.2 SSD SATA SSD that ships with this laptop is the Samsung MZNLF128HCHP, I didn't find the one when the ship it with NVME but pretty much if it has the SATA then replace with another SATA and if it had a NVME then replace with another NVMe

The link that you posted to the specs is only informing what are the storage options so it could either or and not all of them.

Hi, so i am IT and its really awkward for me but i have a hard time understanding how this drive connectivity works.

Here is a laptop: ASUS ROG GL552VW - I have been asked to install an M.2 SSD in it but i am really confused and i have a few questions.

Question 1: How can i find out if it uses the SATA or the PCI controller? And if uses one over the other is it compatible with both?

Question 2: How to pick the right size? All it says: - 256GB SSD (M.2 2280) on the website but it does not say if its a B or M connector at all. ( I assume the 22m is the width and the 80mm is the length)

I am thinking about getting this WD 120GB Green M.2 SATA M.2 2280 drive. According to the site its Sata controlled. Is it going to be compatible? ( it looks like it supports B and M)

Thank you for your answers!

M.2 2280 type. Just go for that, it'll be fine.

If in doubt use a web tool like the Crucial Scanner for clarity :)

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

So you mean it does not matter if i buy a sata or pcie based SSD both will work?

(accoring to the site you said its Sata based)
