48 gb Tri vs 32 gb quad

Hello Community,

I will be acquiring a 2 x 8gb kit of G-Skill Trident-Z memory for a significantly discounted price that matches my current 8 x 4 kit. This led me to question whether or not to install the new kit and run 48gb triple channel or stick with the 32gb quad channel and set the other aside until I can get another. I did a fair amount of research with little results to sway me one way or the other. I'm leaning toward sticking with the 32gb quad channel simply due to the increased throughput. I just find myself curious whether or not 48 in triple would have any benefits vs 32 in quad (though not likely) if at all. Thanks for any input in advance.

Well it depends on your use case. Are you doing tasks where higher bandwidth would benefit you or physically more memory? If it's video editing in Adobe CC or Davinci I would go with quad channel. If it's gaming doesn't matter

Whats the motherboard and system? You could just run quad channel memory with two channels having twice the memory, while not ideal, the IMC can sort out the imbalance and should let you have the most RAM.
