Dell G3 15" Laptop with Thunderbolt 3

Hi.

As a similar post a read some time before here, I have been a Mac user too for the past 15 years, got tired of Apple's lack of support after the 1 year warranty and poor built engineering of their own products and since they cost a nut to buy I am not willing to spend anymore of my money for underpowered machines in 2018 that should offer a superior experience because of their "premium" status which is not the case anymore.

Since I have neglected my gaming need for the past 15 years screw apple's expensive toys, I want a good old Windows Laptop that runs everything...well sort of...still on a budget.

I want the new Dell G3 but with thunderbolt 3 for future egpu upgradability. Does anyone know how to configure such a laptop, because on their site there are no other explanations other than "Optional Thunderbolt™ 3 with Type-C™" but no actual option to choose it. How do I get the 15" model with that optional connectivity, did anyone manage to get it?

Thank you.

I looked around on the website and I seem to can't find anything either. Maybe calling Dell Customer Support would help?

According to what I read browsing through the questions on Dells product page (https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/new-dell-g3-15-gaming/spd/g-series-15-3579-laptop/fncwgf421sv2), I'm pretty sure the Thunderbolt 3 port is only included if you buy a model with a GTX 1060 Max Q or an i7 8th gen processor.

Specs: CPU: AMD Ryzen R7 3700X @4.4Ghz, GPU: Gigabyte RX 5700 XT, RAM: 32 GB (2x 8GB Trident Z Royal + 2x 8GB TForce Vulkan Z) @3000Mhz, Motherboard: ASRock B550m Steel Legend, Storage: 1x WD Black 1Tb NVMe (boot) + 1x Samsung 860 QVO 1Tb SSD (storage), Case: Thermaltake Core V21, Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

It's an optional feature in G3. Can consider G5/G7 for TB3

Any 1060 with the G3 includes TB3. CPU doesn't matter you could get the i5 + 1060 and it would still have TB3.

source: forgot, but it was on a notebookreview thread and they confirmed it with Dell.

Wouldn’t mind such a configuration at all, still very cheap around a 1000$ but I can’t find anyone at Dell confirming this.

I had a quick chat with their customer service yesterday night and told me there is no thunderbolt 3 for G3 at all! and the representative excused himself for the missinformation on the page.

If your telling me this then there must be a degree of confusion about this thunderbolt 3 argument.

i didn’t have a lot of time to argue so I left the conversation there with the representative, but it’ll help a lot if you found the source where you read that. Thank you.

Yea I’m already considering the G7 as backup but I really need to make sure the G3 has TB3. It has a sleeker and more low profile than the other two since I’m going to take this everywhere as my daily driver to work and play.

today

literally what i said. 1060 = tb3

Dell's service reps barely know anything above an average user on this forum. They go on the config list and see if there's an option and if they can't find it they tell you the computer doesn't have it.

Here's another review that confirms it. This guy knows his stuff. He applys liquid metal to it and adds a 120hz screen. Pretty sick shit.
