Could anyone recommend me a brand new smartphone? My budget is ~$160 I live in the U.S. and have a GSM carrier.

BLU phones should be decent

 

please look for a used 6+ 32GB or so..  much more value.

I'd take a look at the Nokia 6 line. You should also be able to find a used Note, or perhaps a Moto Z Play for that.
