LG G6 Vs Pixel 1

z123killer

I have a budget of about $300 and the two phones that always come up are the LG G6 and the Pixel 1. I want the phone to last a couple of years, have a decent display, and have a decent camera for social media pics; Would you recommend the G6, the Pixel 1, or something else?

Pixel if you like software support

LG if you like audio quality.

Google promised 2 years updates for the Pixel 1.

So, if that's true, Android 9 in 3 months will be the last major Update for the Pixel - except security patches which will continue.

If Google doesn't surprisingly give it Android 10 fall 2019 too, it will "die" on the same Android version, as an Samsung Galaxy S8 :P

However, Google Promised 3+ years updates for the Pixel 2, so it will get 2 years longer updates - aka if Google didn't fool us, Pixel 1 will get the last update end 2018, Pixel 2 end 2020

Having sold my G6 about 5 months ago for a new OG Pixel XL, I have to say that the only thing I miss is the robustness of the G6 and the perfect build quality.

If you care about those things more than you care about OS updates / camera / battery life / overall speed, then go for the G6.

But if you ask me, OG Pixel is the way to go :)

Have you seen my first post here? The hardware of the Pixel is inferior across the board...

I actually have. So here it goes:

Smaller, standard aspect ratio screen with old school bezels

Pixel uses an OLED display, the 18:9 ratio is a love or hate feature. The size also. Bigger doesn't mean better for everyone.

Yet its a larger overall device and egregiously thick at 8.5mm

A matter of personal preference again. The G6 feels good in the hand, but don't use a case! It will become bulky af. The Pixel is the perfect fit for me.

And a lower capacity battery, by about 600mAh!

Software regulates that. OG Pixel users average about 5-6 hrs SOT, or a full day with a single charge. The G6 struggled to do that (at least with my use)

No dual sim or sdcard slot

Yep, that is a bad thing.

Water resistance is not up to IP68

G6 is undoubtedly the winner in build quality I already said so.

Single main camera with no OIS

I think we can all agree that image quality is superior with the Pixel. Digital Image Stabilization kind of compensates for lack of OIS

No wireless charging or Quick Charge 3.0

Correct, although battery capacity is smaller, which means faster charging times without pumping 2 Amps @9Volts.

What about overall speed? Do you think that a G6 is snappier than an OG Pixel? Have you used both devices?

Thanks. So the Pixel has a better camera, a better display, and more updates; But, the G6 has a bigger display, a better build, and wireless charging?

I would take a better display and a better camera over wireless charging and a bigger display if I had to choose... but I want the phone to last at least 3 years, do you think the pixel would hold up?

Also, are there other phones in the $300 price range that would be a better choice than the Pixel?
