CXM 550W PSU still good for new upgrades?

JoeMonsta

Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone could help me out by letting me know if my current PSU would still be good for these components I plan to buy. Here's a list to the parts I was planning on using: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QZdZQZ

I'm pretty sure that I need a new one but I just wanted to double check before dropping a bunch of cash on one I don't need. If I do in fact need a new PSU to handle these parts, any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!

Don't worry, 550 W is sufficient for your build.

The Corsair CXM (grey label) is also a decent power supply so you're fine here as well.

I feel like you didn't balance the parts in your build very well. Pretty slow memory, motherboard with a VRM that can't really handle an octacore (and none of the mATX boards on Ryzen are really very good), a low-end mATX case, the worst 144 Hz monitor ever made (it's not actually 144 Hz, read reviews of that thing if you don't believe me), and it could definitely be better balanced with a 2600X, faster 3200 MHz memory, an ATX board and ATX chassis, and better performance for the majority of applications.

|PSU Tier List /80 Plus Efficiency| PSU stuff if you need it.

The PC was originally a budget build with a Ryzen 3 1200 and a 1050ti. I’m planning on slowing upgrading things one at a time in the future as I can afford them. I’m aware the monitor isn’t great but it works. Thanks for the suggestions though. Do you think I would receive a lot better performance with 3200mhz ram?

On 1st-gen Ryzen, yes. Little bit less on second-gen from what I understand.
