New Gaming PC Build

gheyn

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in the market for a new gaming PC (haven't had one in a while but now it is finally time again). I will be purchasing within the next few days/1 or 2 weeks and my budget is around 1500€ excluding peripherals and OS.

As the title suggests, the primary use will be gaming, most likely 1440p for the time being. This should then also be able to cover all kinds of lighter office work/surfing and media consumption.

For now, I have picked the following parts:

  • Intel® Core™ i5-8600K
  • ASUS PRIME Z370-A
  • Noctua NH-D14
  • G.Skill DIMM 16GB DDR4-3200 Kit
  • MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X 8G
  • WD WD40EFRX 4 TB
  • Intel® Optane Memory 32 GB
  • Corsair RM650X 650W
  • Fractal Design Meshify C Dark Tint TG

This brings me to around 1480€ after rebates.

My main criteria was a "silent" system with future proof gaming performance.
I chose the HDD + Optane combo since Intel recently added accelerated performance not only for booting but also for loading games, supposedly giving SSD like performance (and ASUS and Intel currently offer a very appealing cashback for that MoBo + Optane combo).

I'd be happy to get some feedback on my current choice of components. Especially the ram is something I am unsure of since there are so many seemingly similar options.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Might I suggest a M.2 nvme drive in place of the optane and spinner (or use the spinner for data) as the m.2 will be much faster....

Incase of ram dont buy one 16gb ram stick..buy 2X8Gb stick since dual config gives more performance...I would suggest an ssd but if you are ok with optane go for it

Also why are using the NH D14? The d15 is out and has better ram clearance, more socket support, etc.
