basically its a place to host custom game modes it a game that has lots of other games

Garry's Mod died for me years ago. Soo many memories though. You take props from the source games or workshop addons and create crazy stuff, make a movie, build a house out of watermelons, play random gamemodes with your friends, go to a virtual movie theatre and watch real movies, drop a car on someone, role play, play a minecraft map, burn down a wood house, drive a car off a cliff. Basically a huge sandbox game with limitless possibility. I used to make a lot of addons for it, but my interest died kinda.

It was a mod made by a dude name gary from the UK and was bought by Face Punch studios sometime ago. Basically it's an open source playground of assets people make and reuse to create game modes like prop hunt, slender, TTT, and sooooo many more. It's really a game of a thousand games. Never gets old in my book

Basically anything. I'd like to call it "easy hacks" as the "sandbox" game mode lets you noclip (fly around and through walls) & spawn in whatever you want whenever you want in any source engine game that's loaded & compatible. 

Then there's multiplayer where people created their own game modes like "role play" servers where you pretend you're a person in a town as a citizen or police officer. Then there's some zombie game modes & maps. Most of what I thought were the best types of servers have disapered in favor of RP servers. It's the most popular game mode & I liked it when I saw the first ones appear.
